• Supported the integrations team for the WorkPlace product. In this role, I held the team and product to a high bar of excellence, and pushed for better customer experiences. I worked with the team to build extensions that allowed the core product to reach users on different surfaces, while also working with a wide team of XFN partners to come up with a holistic integration and developer experience strategy for the product.

• Joined the insurance team, where I worked with my product and business partners to manage a portfolio of products for sustained delivery. • As a site leader I had to adapt my personal style to the Expedia culture and unique organisational challenges. Having to staff a just-established office up to 100 people, while establishing a culture of open feedback, delivery of results and embracing change required me to work with different orgs to help them better understand the specificities of this location. I established a network of support, which I leveraged to push my goals forward. This stretched my organisational and communication skills, since there was no script to follow and a lot of ambiguity to work through.

• Managed a team of 20 people to establish engineering excellence, while coordinating with upper management to create long term product and personnel strategy. Introduced the idea of “dogfooding” our own system, and ended the use of special APIs. Pushed for automated deploy and test processes, to enable the team to focus on their day-to-day more effectively. Introduced stream processing and event based architecture, which enabled rapid dissemination of information for our analytical and operational systems.

• Introduced Git versioning system, and helped troubleshoot problems that employees faced.
• Introduced peer-review policies and workflow structure for the technical department.
• Built API for 3rd parties to integrate with our service, and iterated over it to introduce more features and consolidate the code base (currently at version 3, fully RESTful).
• Was in charge of the restructuring effort, where the system went through huge evolutionary changes which required massive code changes and new data models.
• Designed, migrated and supervised the switch from PostgreSQL database to the NoSQL database Mongo.
• Created a Postgres-Mongo-Redis data store hybrid to meet the business and performance requirements.
