Grain Roundness Characterization in Sedimentary Rocks Using Deep Learning and Fourier-Based Shape Descriptors
🧠 Responsibilities & Outcomes:
Developed a U-Net based deep learning model for grain segmentation
Applied Elliptic Fourier Descriptors (EFD) for quantifying shape and roundness
Generated annotated datasets with COCO-style JSON outputs
Built a complete visualization and automation pipeline using OpenCV, NumPy, Gradio, and Python
Automated roundness classification for petrographic analysis
This experience helped me explore the intersection of AI, Computer Vision, and Geoscience, and enhanced both my technical and research skills.
