Experience

Life360

QA Engineering Manager

Apr 2022Aug 2025 · 3 yrs 4 mos

  • Jiobit was acquired by Life360, so this is a continuation of that work with a new role and title.
  • Managed a team of QA engineers responsible for both mobile application testing and app-device interoperability testing in the field (Jiobit products). Mentored these QA engineers and their work to a high standard. Collaborated with fellow QA Managers when joint-effort testing was needed. Implemented several internal processes to help track or estimate quality such as Risk Rubric, JIRA metrics w/ labels vs components, JIRA dashboards for tracking quality, and JIRA Bug Filter queries. Trained others in how to use Jira Query Language (JQL) to match my efforts with JIRA dashboards and bug filter queries.
  • Acquired another team of QA engineers also responsible for both mobile application and app-device interoperability testing in the field for a different product line (Tile products). Intermixed the Jiobit and Tile QA teams and assisted in cross-training. Worked to shape both Jiobit and Tile SDLCs and STLCs into the same uniform process so agile ceremonies were more easily achieved and understood by both teams, resulting in clear and achievable release processes and deadlines.
  • Worked with my team members' individual career development plans and conducted performance reviews. Provided constructive criticism and communicated positive feedback as appropriately needed. Fought for and communicated promotions for team members. Acted as a shield for my team so they can do their best work without interruption. Fielded all ad-hoc and planned QA requests from other teams and planned efforts to meet delivery timelines.
  • Prepared team members for reporting changes or team moves as re-organizations occurred to keep retention risk as low as possible and employee morale high.
  • People managed three (3) distinct QA teams that support unique product lines with up to 11 reports at once.

  • Continued to do my standard duties of fulfilling manual and automation QA/test needs and expectations for our flagship product at DRIVIN. Consulted developers on unit testing and integration testing practices. Designed test strategies to tackle large or complicated features and efforts. Wrote extensive documentation on how our flagship product is to be regression tested for pre-launch testing. Built a QA team by being the key factor in the hiring process for our second QA Automation Engineer. Coached and on-boarded the new QA Automation Engineer who is performing excellently. Pushed a culture of quality by slowly coaching developers and testers on quality coding and testing for quality. Trained developers in how they can do regression testing. Worked with Data Engineering to ensure there are no data quality issues and reported any issues that surfaced. Built and maintained many nightly test automation jobs and reported on errors whenever they surfaced. Maintained productive relationships with fellow colleagues. Kept proactive to ensure each team has their QA expectations and needs met. Attended leadership training workshops which assisted my communication skills as a leader.

  • As the solo QA guy here at this fast paced recently acquired startup, my responsibilities include driving a culture of quality across the organization, supporting all development teams by overseeing the software development process from start to finish, supporting all JIRA stories and releases by manual testing and catching bugs and reporting them in a timely fashion, and also support all products by writing automated test suites in Java and using Jenkins CI architecture to run nightly or on-push functional and regression E2E tests.
