• I combined the roles of engineering manager and product manager for the API Platform. My services ranged from defining the product roadmap to hiring and supporting engineers.
• During my time with Navico I hired 14 engineers, building three teams from the ground-up, creating an environment where teams have high levels of autonomy to improve their working practices, applying techniques like Mob Programming, Continuous Delivery, and TDD.
• All of the code and services were cloud-native and serverless, utilising the likes of AWS Lambda and API Gateway to support IoT APIs for connected smart boats and navigational mapping.

• Joined Salesforce Marketing Cloud to support the agile transformation in Advertising Studio at a time when the business was making a major pivot on its business model to be more integrated and aligned with the wider Salesforce product portfolio.
• Was a vocal advocate of the importance of moving toward outcome-oriented teams trusted with the autonomy to engage with users and determine their own product roadmaps. Equally, spent a lot of time promoting the benefits of developer tooling and platform capabilities that would enable developers to spend more time on discovery and delivery work (and less on infra), with the ability to deliver software more frequently.
• Had both strategic and tactical responsibilities - leading architectural design discussions, multi-team technical direction and standardisation as well as hands-on coding using front and backend technologies including Node.js and .NET Core.
• Represented Salesforce at many international conferences including Domain-Driven Design Europe, Craft Conference, and Agile Manchester. Also invited many external speakers to give talks at Salesforce.
• Will forever be grateful to Salesforce for the opportunity to experience the truly amazing Ohana culture and spend a number of days volunteering on worthwhile causes, such as repairing a children's adventure playground and speaking about the working world to college students.

• Helped the VOA deliver their first digital service in the GDS era - the award-winning Rent and Lease Details service. Additionally helped to lay the foundations for the future by introducing modern agile practices and continuous delivery.
• Lead and hired a development team that built applications using Scala and Play Framework. These applications were deployed on HMRC's MDTP and the teams worked very closely with the exceptional digital delivery and architecture teams at HMRC who are an inspiring example of the positives that can be achieved in government IT.
• Was a keen proponent of the GDS philosophy; encouraging the team to focus on user needs, to open source code and especially to respect the responsibilities of spending taxpayer money wisely & positively impacting millions of UK citizens.
• Working at the VOA was an opportunity to work with many stand-out role models (at the VOA and HMRC) who frequently demonstrated how to be a likeable team player and an inspiring leader.

• Lead the modernisation and re-build of a leading travel agent's search engine and website, working with the brilliant people at Artirix who were like a family.
• The role involved seeing work through from start to finish. Collaborating with clients directly to identify what their customers needed, and then iteratively delivering solutions whilst constantly reevaluating priorities and future direction.
• A big achievement of the project was introducing continuous delivery and deploying on a daily basis, which helped the client to achieve parity with their competitors. The technologies used to build the solution were Scala, Akka and Elasticsearch which definitely gave a big advantage in terms of development speed, runtime performance and content discoverability capabilities.

• Worked with an extremely passionate team of all-round software developers who were doing continuous delivery before it was cool and microservices before it even had a name, building a global media streaming and download platform that served approximately 1k requests per-second.
• The 7digital platform was used by some of the largest organisations in the world to compete with the likes of iTunes and had content from all of the top record labels.
• Deploying to production 20 times a day was possible through a process that focused on completing work rather than bringing more into progress combined with technical practices to build quality in, including TDD, Pair Programming and CI. A culture that promoted quality and learning was also vital.
• Spent time in the Search, Catalogue and Media Delivery teams, whilst always having a strong interest in what other teams were upto. In addition to building software, enjoyed the opportunity to have input into high-level architecture and the move towards asynchronous workflows.

• Wiggle were the home of some established names in the London development community, and working there turned out to be short-lasting but savvy career move that provided many valuable teachings about agile, TDD, DDD and event-driven scalable distributed systems.
• This role involved working on the payments team to integrate new payment providers whilst refactoring parts of a monolithic and poorly-maintained codebase. The technologies used were all Microsoft based - Windows, C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server, but the team were strong advocates of open source and considering technological diversification.

• Enjoyed building brand new web-based systems for a variety of huge brands in the automotive & telco industries which included a mix of frontend and backend work.
• Was part of a team who used .NET technologies but were massive proponents of open source including Castle Monorail and Castle Windsor. The team were also a huge source of inspiration introducing concepts like Domain-Driven Design, and inspired personal development through the recommendation of many outstanding books, technology blogs and screencasts.
• The developers at BigJump were also clean code and OO modelling enthusiasts who were an endless source of great insights and useful career knowledge.
