Supradip Das, PhD — Design Manager

Supradip Das is an Assistant professor in the Department of Design, IIT Guwahati. He has completed Master of Design from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Bachelor of Engineering from Nagpur University, securing the tenth rank in the university. He has completed his PhD in 'Design Heuristics for Furniture Design and Tool for Model Making'. His research interests are in the fields of Toys for tomorrow, Transformable Furniture, Packaging design and Product Development for health. He is the course instructor for Masters and Bachelors courses titled ‘Structural Packaging Design’, ‘Introduction to Toy Design’, ‘Tinkering Studio’ and ‘Model making and simulation’ in IIT Guwahati. He has ten years of teaching experience in M.S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies, Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology and Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He has also delivered guest lectures in other colleges and conducted workshops in design. Before joining Academic profession, he was associated with Tata Autocomp Systems Ltd. and through Kaizen and POKAYOKE improved Total Productive Maintenance and contributed to the development of software for Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) for Tata GSYUASA. Under his guidance, students completed their Master’s thesis projects in the domain of ‘Transformable Furniture Design’, ‘Design for street food vending’, ‘Product design intervention for indigenous fermented beverages of Assam’, ‘battery operated cycle’ and ‘Bamboo furniture’. He has developed products and solutions for vegetable vendors for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation and is currently working on a sponsored project by Design Innovation Centre where he is developing products for street food vending.
