About

I teach Modeling & Simulation, Modelica, FMI, SciML and Physics‑Informed Machine Learning. My mission: simplify complex technical systems through clear explanations and practical models. I am the author of the Learn Modelica & FMI newsletter and website (dr-clementcoic.github.io/LearnModelicaFMI), and I create educational simulation content on YouTube focused on intuitive modeling, simulation, and AI‑assisted engineering workflows... and have some great interviews with technical references! I am also the co‑author of the book “Multiphysics Modeling of Technological Systems”, published in both French and English editions (ISTE/Wiley). These works cover foundational and advanced concepts in multiphysics modeling and reflect more than a decade of applied experience in system design and simulation. Throughout my career, I’ve worked across aerospace and healthcare, designing and analyzing complex systems, leading digital mechatronics initiatives, and building teams of modeling & simulation experts. My focus has always been to help experts adopt better tools by lowering the barrier to new technologies and explaining complexity clearly. I share insights on: - Modeling & simulation best practices - Modelica, FMI, and interoperability standards - SciML & physics‑informed ML - Digital mechatronics and system design - Leadership for technical innovation and adoption If you're interested in modeling, simulation, or modern AI‑enhanced engineering workflows, let’s connect and explore ideas together.

R&D on Modelling and Simulation - Electrical Power Systems

Dec 2016Sep 2017 · 9 mos · Région de Munich, Allemagne

  • I develop Modelica libraries for Dymola, applied to customer use cases, and support Dassault Systèmes colleagues on Fluid Power topics.
  • During these 9months, I created an Electrical Power Systems (EPS) library that models several levels of complexity for each component. This enables supporting the Model-Based System development from the early design to the detailed design phases.
  • As an example of the result, the MOET (More Open Electrical Technologies, a European project) architecture for aircraft EPS was modelled and runs 7x faster than real-time.

  • The aim of this PhD was to investigate the performance augmentation of Fly-by-Wire actuators for helicopters. Indeed, current dynamic sealing and bearing devices for actuators impede the implementation of several new functions on helicopters due to their short lifespan at high frequencies. Substitution of conventional seals with linear fluid bearings was identified as a necessary technological step to enhance actuator performance, at the cost of minor leakage. However, such substitution cannot be achieved without a clear understanding of the associated impacts on the actuator itself, on the Actuation System and, finally, on helicopter flight controls.
  • In these three years, I developed a complete modelling of the helicopter hydraulic system, interconnected with its sizing process. Pilot-In-the-Loop simulation enabled validating the sizing of the entire actuation system.
  • I also sized and followed the manufacturing of a high-performance electro-hydraulic actuator which was tested on a test bench that I designed on purpose.

  • I was in charge of writing the Requirement Specification of Fly-By-Wire Actuators for the next generation of heavy helicopters. I led the technical part of the Request For Information on this topic.
  • I also carried out a Request For Proposal for a test bench reproducing the flight scenarios (with the generation of antagonist loads) of an electro-hydraulic actuator for helicopters.
  • Last but not least, I actively contributed to the creation of my about-to-happen PhD (scope definition, funding, finding support, defending the project...), involving the French Association for Research Technology (ANRT), Airbus Helicopters and the Laboratoire Clément Ader from INSA Toulouse.
