• Answer to Apple’s Animoji on Android, puppets is based on computer vision CNNs built to perform on Android devices. Led a global team of 3 Deep Learning engineers and 6 Android engineers to ship a Deep Neural Network based product that tracks human expressions and transfers them onto an animation. I helped refine product vision to a 6 dimensional release criteria. While doing so, I complied with Microsoft’s CELA/Privacy/Geo Pol/Ethical AI team’s stringent standards for building representative Computer Vision products. Where standards did not exist, I helped create a metric based approach to measure effectiveness of our technology and ensure that we were representative of the world.
• Benefit to Microsoft: Underlying technology enhances Cognitive services offering on Azure by adding new expressions across genders, ethnicities and age groups and can be thus shipped across Teams, Skype, HoloLens. The underlying learnings will be used across Computer Vision group to help build representative AI.
• Recognition: My work was lauded as pioneering by the Fairness, Accountability, Transparency & Ethics in AI committee (F.A.T.E.), Ethical AI (AETHER) committee & this project is now being used as a benchmark to do fair and responsible AI.
• SwiftKey Insights product:
• Using telemetry and typing data from SwiftKey’s 100+ million users, envisioned 3 data products and delivered 40% of the roadmap which met the team’s annual OKR within 6 months.
• Benefit to Microsoft: Serves as the only source of mobile insights across Microsoft vs its Competitors. Provides engagement insights which help surface up new experiences to users via new features/products. This product helped corroborate a product integration, foster a new product integration and build a new product.
