About

I acquired a passion for playing video games at a very young age, and I wanted to figure out how to make my own games. At the age of 7 I started making very simple games with visual development tools (Klik & Play) which led me to start programming. I have now designed and developed software professionally for over 15 years. My software engineering experience covers all areas of development, such as data analysis, database design and management, backend services development, front-end design and development (web, Windows, iOS, and Android), and system operations for Windows and UNIX-based systems. I’ve taken on several leadership roles, leading teams to develop products. This involves things such as dealing with coordination with external parties, architecting the backend and/or frontend, mentoring of members of the team, and making decisions regarding the product and the technical platform.

  • I built most of Spotify’s social features, and had a big role in the rest. These features include user profiles, the Activity view, user-to-user messages, share flow, the right-hand realtime feed, Social Chart, and the notification center.
  • I’ve coordinated the technical aspects of Spotify’s full redesign, which includes speaking with the design and development teams in Stockholm as well as development teams in New York, in order to keep the release of new Spotify versions on schedule.
  • As a liaison for the new markets and localization teams I’ve worked to improve localization support across the product, both by advising groups of developers and developing additional localization tools.
  • During my time at Spotify I have made many contributions to Spotify’s technical platform, such as their Apollo platform (Java framework for standalone backend services) and many JavaScript libraries and utilities used for frontend work.
  • I’ve worked with HR and the recruitment teams to improve the internal and external recruitment processes. As one of the first engineers in the NYC office, I helped interview and select a very large number of the initial tech team.

  • I worked on designing and developing several of Spotify’s main features, such as the “Discover” and “Follow” pages.
  • While the Spotify Web Player was being developed, I helped with building its internal technical platform.
  • I’ve been heavily involved in the architecture of the HTML5 platform that lets Spotify deploy updates to views to clients in near realtime. This work included architecting APIs, investigating technical feasibility of different solutions, and developing stable APIs intended for use by many thousand third-party developers.
  • I developed some of the first HTML5-powered views in Spotify, such as the “Radio” view.
  • In spring of 2011 and also right before their f8 event I worked closely with Facebook in their Palo Alto offices to facilitate the Spotify-Facebook partnership by providing technical advice on behalf of Spotify, as well as finalizing the technical platforms on Spotify’s side that power Facebook’s metadata database, Open Graph.
  • I built and set up the image delivery pipeline for Facebook and other external parties, performing on-the-fly image resizing and delivering the images via a CDN. I also architected and built open.spotify.com, the platform that delivers metadata to Facebook’s Open Graph, serving thousands of requests per second.
  • For about a year I was the lead developer for Spotify’s web site, www.spotify.com, building out the
  • content platform as well as working on payment and invitation systems and customer account pages.

  • I developed user interfaces that would control complex processes in various factories. For example, one project was a UI for controlling the construction of solar panels, from the raw materials, through the furnace process, and to the slicing and cleaning of the wafers. This project had several operator UIs for controlling the process (which involved hundreds of robots), as well as a mobile UI developed for Windows Phone that would allow an operator to scan materials and control the various machines that were involved in the process. The system would then track all actions and warn in case there were issues.
  • I also developed web applications to track the progress of errands for teams at factories and other facilities.

  • I developed an online game which had hundreds of thousands of registered players, thousands of which would simultaneously play the game online. The goal of the game was to build an army and attack other nearby towns, owned by other players, and steal their resources while defending your own towns. Players could send an SMS to a short number to pay for additional soldiers and other benefits in the game. I had a big role in all aspects of building and maintaining the game, with some support for design and community management.
  • When I wasn’t working on the game I would help develop other games also run by the company as well as building a translation platform so that we could launch the games in more countries.

Web Developer

Apr 2003Jul 2004 · 1 yr 3 mos · Fuengirola, Spain

  • At Cyber Creative I would work on adding functionality to online real estates software, as well as implementing it for customers. I also planned and architected a new iteration of the software. Besides working on the software I developed other web applications, such as a lead finder software which would automate search queries and perform analysis on web pages to find potential customers based on names and addresses.
