About

Shane Legg is Co-Founder and Chief AGI Scientist at Google DeepMind, where he leads the Technical AGI Safety team. One of the world’s leading experts on AGI, Shane explores key questions about how AGI will fundamentally reshape our world and how societies can best prepare for this transformational technology. Shane is a Distinguished Alumni of Waikato University and obtained his PhD from Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research (IDSIA) in Switzerland. His thesis proposed a formal definition of machine intelligence, for which he was awarded the Canadian Singularity Institute research prize. He later held postdoctoral positions at the Swiss Finance Institute and the Gatsby Computational Neuroscience unit at University College London (UCL), where he is an Honorary Fellow and in 2017 received the Digital Masters Award for Excellence in Technology. Shane was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2019 Birthday Honours for services to investment and the science and technology sectors. Personal blog: www.vetta.org
