My childhood was spent like any typical kid…taking the bus to school, playing cricket, and having the time of my life in the royal city of Mysore. My dream was to achieve something beyond the walls of my community. I didn’t get into computer science until college, when one of my friends spent the summer learning programming, and suddenly it became cool. Really, it was the inner workings that fascinated me - I loved learning how to assemble a computer. Only after I’d played around for a while, mastering what I could on Linux, did I begin to understand software. For most of my career, I’ve sought out ways to use data and technology as a solution for complex issues facing global societies. My work began with a group of academics and engineers in bioinformatics - I was tasked with building tools for analyzing genomics data. From there, I earned my stripes working for some of the most renowned technology companies in the world, including Yahoo!, LinkedIn, and Airbnb. My primary role has been leading data platform teams to build systems that maximize the value of their data. Supporting organizations at scale, you quickly learn how valuable and complicated managing data assets can be. As my skills and ambitions grew, I connected with my former colleague Shirshanka Das to start DataHub, a company based on our collective experiences in the industry, and built on top of DataHub Core, an open-source metadata platform that helps companies manage and leverage data at scale. Since then, we’ve built a world-class team, and are working furiously to help large organizations make the most of their data. When I’m not at DataHub, I’m usually at home with my wife, gossiping with my little girl, or singing South Indian classical music to anyone who’ll listen.
