About

Systems engineer specialized in reliability and safety for space systems, with over 14 years at the European Space Agency (ESA) and a decade of hands-on expertise on Ariane 6—Europe’s flagship multi-system integration program. Drawing on operational experience at the Guiana Space Center (CSG) across Ariane 6 launch campaigns, I contribute to crisis-management scenario preparation and to the robustness of the launcher’s operational qualification in both development and exploitation phases. Beyond my work at ESA, my passion for space exploration takes me far beyond the control rooms and launch pads. As a volunteer with The Mars Society and the Austrian Space Forum, I have lived the adventure of mission planning and field simulations, donning spacesuit simulators and working side-by-side with international crews in remote analog environments. Whether supporting engineering experiments in the deserts of Oman or mentoring students on the future of human missions to Mars, I thrive on the challenge of making exploration safer, more operable, and more accessible. I am driven by the desire to share this journey—speaking at conferences, guiding young professionals, and sparking curiosity in classrooms and workshops. For me, space is not just a destination, but a community and a calling. I believe in building bridges across cultures and disciplines, inspiring others to dream boldly and work rigorously, and always keeping safety and exploration at the heart of humanity’s future beyond Earth. Driven by curiosity and a true “space rider” spirit, I bring energy, authenticity, and a sense of wonder to every mission—whether on the launch pad, in the field, or in front of an audience with stars in their eyes. I am testing Safety from the Earth to Space. Join me on my Youtube Channel : => https://www.youtube.com/@alinedecadi1 => https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfJif6Vk0xc

Safety Engineering in Human Spaceflight (European Space Agency & HE Space Operations BV)

Feb 2012Present · 14 yrs 2 mos

  • Development of Safety expertise in Human Spaceflight:
  • Developing expertise and technical competence on Safety for human spaceflight activities (International Space Station (ISS) and beyond)
  • Published 2 papers on the elaboration of standardised Safety requirements for crew transportation systems):
  • o Understanding of current Safety requirements based on NASA safety standards (e.g. ISS and Orion)
  • o Interpretation and synergies with global existing regulations and standards (e.g. aerospace)
  • o Investigating methodologies for implementation of hazard mitigation, control and resolution (NCRs)
  • o Elaboration of future Safety standard in cooperation with international partners for future human spaceflight missions.
  • Third publication on the evolution of the safety criteria for human space transportation beyond low earth orbit (including Moon/Mars): This paper defines what are the reliability and safety standards used for current low earth orbit human spaceflight operations through a failure conditions safety assessment, applying it to crew transportation systems and taking into account the mission aims. It evaluates existing standardized safety and regulatory processes that are in place for civil aviation (ARP 4761, ARP 4754A, AC 25.1309), which are largely accepted as being a premier example of industry safety standards, and assess how it could be extrapolated and adapted to ensure similar safety standards in future human space exploration missions.
