I know what it’s like to chase the next big thing, giving everything to work while struggling at home. Not long ago, I even interviewed for a new job just 7 weeks postpartum. On my first day at the new job after maternity leave, my son was 4 months old. I said yes to a work dinner after a full day in the office, thinking I could juggle it all. I rushed home, but I missed putting him to bed. I was devastated. I couldn’t help but wonder, “Is this my life now? Do I have to choose between my career and family?” Then the pandemic started, and life slowed down. With an 8-month-old at home, I did something that changed everything—I took stock of my values. Next, I began to align my life with what truly mattered. I found roles with better work-life balance, made time for exercise and meditation, and gained the energy to launch a podcast, finish my book, and keep up a full-time job. This shift was a game-changer. I discovered that prioritizing my family and personal goals helped everything fall into place. I was a better employee with these changes, too.
