About

Disclaimer: This is a personal forum. I do not discuss or connect on matters related to my employer. Pls use official bank channels for that. Views/ideas/opinions are my own. With over two decades of experience as a trader, executive, and board member, I seek to help others fulfill their true potential. I offer a proven track record of transformative results, handling complex projects with diligence and innovation at the forefront of everything I do. Decision-making based on often fragmentary information is my key area of expertise. As a trader, it is imperative to respond to changes dynamically in an ever-changing marketplace. This is a complex process, where it is necessary to balance the short and the long-term, internal and external stakeholders – all while generating revenue and managing risk. The ability to find solutions and support others is bolstered by my wide-ranging interests and appreciation of learning and education. I provide insight and advice on various topics on social media including personal finances, investments, career development, and employment. I have sat on boards, consulted and invested in various organizations, and made many appearances and commentaries on internationally known business channels, including Reuters, CNN, MBC, and Al Arabiya. I received my MBA in Finance (2007) from the University of Ottawa, completed my Masters in Research from Durham University (2021), have given lectures at the Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai, teaching investments and derivatives. So whether as an executive or an academic, my ultimate vision is to pass on my knowledge and insight and help others to optimize their chances of success, helping them to avoid mistakes and achieve their full potential.

Part-time Lecturer (Adjunct Faculty)

Jan 2020May 2021 · 1 yr 4 mos · Dubai, United Arab Emirates

  • As part-time Finance Lecturer, I served as part of the adjunct faculty, teaching investments & derivatives.
  • The value proposition in hiring me was the combined academic and real-market experience that I could pass on to the students.
  • Most theory taught in undergraduate finance programs has little application to real life. Consequently, after graduation many students are surprised by the gap between theory and reality.
  • In my lectures, I sought to combine both, as well as developing their skillset for interview preparation, as it is not always the most qualified candidate that gets the role, but the best prepared – these are rarely the same.

MD - Head of Markets (ME&P) & Head of FX Trading (ME&P)

Jan 2007Present · 19 yrs 3 mos · Dubai, UAE

  • I joined Standard Chartered Bank as an international graduate in October 2007.
  • Then I worked, learned and connected hard: Analyst, Associate, Senior Associate, Director, Executive Director, Desk Head, Managing Director, Regional Business Head, Markets Head.
  • Being Managing Director fundamentally entails business building in order to cater to the bank’s clients' demands while optimizing returns and keeping risk effectively managed. The job is to seek and create business opportunities and ensure that the right team, the right mindset and the right tools are in place to lock in the opportunities, while upholding top standards in governance and compliance.
  • The aim is clear: to be the best in what we do in the markets we cover.
