  • I am working on oxygen vacant semiconductor nanomaterials for CO2 photoreduction and H2 generation (via water-splitting) under light irradiation. Our aim is to study the role of oxygen vacancies in CO2 adsorption and as an active site for the reduction reaction. During this period, I
  • have acquired experience in hydrothermal synthesis, BET surface analysis, diffuse reflectance infrared fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS-XANES).

  • My work was on water remediation utilizing thermal power plant wastes such as fly ash. We used fly ash for removal of heavy metal pollutants from wastewater and its ultimate disposal by utilization in building materials. Leaching tests conducted over a 28-day period show no release of heavy metals, confirming safe and complete disposal. We also developed high strength binders utilizing fly ash and flue gas desulfurization (FGD) gypsum- a byproduct obtained from coal based thermal plants. The mixture of fly ash and FGD gypsum discovered to be a promising material for replacement of ordinary portland cement (OPC) as a building material. An increase in strength along with good durability under extreme weather conditions were observed. These materials were studied for setting time, compressive strength, acoustic properties, efflorescence and fire tests. The cost estimation of these mixtures with OPC results in reduction in materials cost.
