• In my Junior year, I received the prestigious Suzanne Salter Arkin Award. Working at Mt Sinai Hess Centre in the Maze Lab over the Summer was an incredibly rewarding experience. This post allowed me to become familiarised with popular academic literature in the field of neuroepigenetics. My mentor, Dr Lorna Farrelly, a postdoctoral researcher, taught me many new techniques, such as “CHIP Sequencing'' and “DNA Purification”. I was then able to successfully carry out these impressive protocols independently. The following year, I was awarded a second scholarship from Sarah Lawrence College, the Ian Lipkin Science Prize. I returned to Mt Sinai and worked as a technician in the neuroscience department, where I perfected these skills and further excelled in a fast-paced professional laboratory environment.

In particular, we are exploring the possibility that we generate the toxins that destroy neurons in dying brain. These toxins include bleach and aggregated proteins. The latter are also known as plaques and tangles. Our research centers on both the mechanism by which these toxins form and strategies to detoxify the brain of these entities."
