The English Book Depot, established in 1923, a family-owned business, has become one of India's leading retail bookshops, embodying a rich legacy of passion for literature. EBD broke new ground by being the first bookstore in India to host a Barista coffee bar, creating a unique community space. What began as a mail-order service has become a vibrant retail store admired globally. The innovative Book Cafe concept was introduced by EBD, redefining the bookstore experience in India. By 2009, over 60 stores flourished across 18 states, serving readers in hospitals, hotels, cafes, malls, and bustling public spaces. In just 36 months, the Book Café brand emerged brilliantly, with the company empowering nearly 200 young people as retail staff, fostering a new generation of booksellers.
