Creative Lead / Industrial Design Manager

Promoted

May 2016Jan 2022 · 5 yrs 8 mos

  • Senior Staff Industrial Designer / Manager. Built and led a team of industrial designers (10-12 direct reports in three locations/timezones). Primary focus was the creative direction of the Pixel mobile computing product portfolio (phones, accessories and laptops) within Google's consumer hardware industrial design group.
  • My journey at Google was not only one about building and scaling a team while shipping multiple products every year from 2013 through 2022, but also one that required establishing a large part of the foundation for the Industrial Design job function and hardware design at the company (including tasks like: building a prototyping shop, writing evaluation & interviewing criteria, helping set the ground for sustainability in hardware, championing diversity & inclusion in ID).
  • It’s hard to summarize nearly a decade of work here, but three aspects I feel proud about are:
  • Having done the early work on the Nexus devices (from the Nexus 5 through the Nexus 6P) which helped pave the way for Google to start building its own phones.
  • Contributing largely to set the design language for the Pixel devices, from the first Pixel phone in 2016, through the Pixel 7 family of phones, as well as the Pixelbook laptops and their respective accessories (cases and wireless/wired chargers, stylus).
  • But what I feel most proud of, is having built a team of super talented industrial designers, which I am confident they will continue to do amazing work for the years to come.
