Lars-Kristian Svenøy — Software Engineer
I learnt early in my life that there's nothing I love more than a challenging problem, no matter what domain it is in. I spent a lot of my childhood hacking away at my computer, be it within video games, cracking away at Metasploit/BackTrack 5 (now Kali Linux), or developing bots for video games. My inventory of hobbies has grown quickly throughout the years, and the one I stuck with the longest turned out to be programming. Back in 2011, I started pursuing making video games as a hobby. I have now been making video games for over a decade, some of that time professionally, but now purely as a hobby, participating in game jams such as Ludum Dare. I also do many others things (many of these related to game development) such as digital art, 3d modelling, creating music, and micro electronics. I also started contracting around that time, and I've been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to work with many different exciting startup companies around the world, developing marketplace platforms, bin-packing algorithms, games, and other solutions. My current professional responsibilities lie within managing big data problems, managing complexity within architectures, not to mention ensuring we are developing inspired and capable leaders and engineers for the future. I still spend a lot of my freetime studying and exploring new trends and technologies. Sometimes reading books about leadership and management ("The Making of a Manager" by Julie Zhuo is a personal favorite), sometimes learning new technologies. (Deep Learning with PyTorch is the current one!) I am lucky that it turned out that my career is also my hobby. Please reach out if you'd like to talk about emerging technologies, software engineering, game development, or challenging problems in general.
