I am currently engaged in research and development of AI/Robotics focused on contested environments, where both network connectivity and visibility are challenging for robotic navigation. This effort pushes the boundaries of AI/IoT, particularly through the implementation of LLMs (Large Language Models) and VLMs (Visual Language Models) at the edge. There are many emerging terminologies for it- SLM, sLLM, nLLM etc. We are also experimenting with cutting-edge AI algorithms and hardware, such as NVIDIA Nx Orin, SWAPC-2 (for DoD edge applications) and mixed-signal AI chips. Part of this effort are conducted in CARDS, UMBC (University of Maryland at Baltimore County), where I work as adjunct research faculty to spearhead AI/Robotic research. We are also doing Edge AI implementation using a new AI in SoC where AI operations (convolutions/Matrix/Vector operations) are done in Analog pipe bringing a factor of 10 or more advantage in processing speed and power. Practice area-IP/Tech/Business risk in AI/IoT - I also connect entrepreneurs to Investors who are keen on funding in AI projects. Additionally, I am developing a non-profit online education platform, Math Club for Kids, aimed at improving students' mathematical skills and fundamentals, which have been in decline due to the overuse of digital gadgets and the rise of multiple-choice-based learning. Previously, I co-founded the industrial IoT startup Machinesense/Opteev (Machinesense, Opteev), where I focused on developing intelligent edge IIoT products for sectors such as healthcare, machinery, power, and infrastructure. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we pivoted to create IIoT products for fever and viral screening, leading to the formation of Opteev Technologies Inc. I hold more than 30 US IIoT patents, 22 of which were granted as of June 2023. These patents cover a wide range of innovations, including vibration, vacuum, and current signature analytics, machine learning applications in predictive maintenance, automation of MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) with sensors, 3-axis deflection sensors for structural monitoring, moisture measurement sensors for plastics, and edge analytics for machine health prediction. Machinesense has been part of the Microsoft ScaleUp program since 2018, collaborating closely with the Azure IoT Central team. We also have a strong partnership with Siemens Mindsphere IoT PaaS platform as a Gold partner.
