About

Building Traycer, a plan-first coding assistant that seamlessly integrates into your workflow. Previously, I founded two tech startups: Netsil and FluxNinja. Netsil, an observability solution for DevOps and SREs, was acquired by Nutanix. At Netsil, I served as Chief Architect, pioneering a network-centric approach to application observability. FluxNinja offers developers advanced SDKs for rate limiting, caching, and request prioritization.

  • I was responsible for architecting the Aperture project while leading a team of over ten engineers. Aperture (https://github.com/fluxninja/aperture) is an open-source load management tool designed to help software teams scale their APIs cost-effectively by providing advanced capabilities such as rate limiting, caching, and request prioritization. It is engineered to incur low latency by using distributed in-memory counters for load management and features an expressive policy language configured through a centralized control plane. Developers integrate Aperture into applications using SDKs in popular languages and can also integrate into existing service mesh or load balancer stacks such as Istio, Nginx, and Kong.
  • In addition to open-source, FluxNinja offers Aperture Cloud, a scalable self-serve load management service. Aperture Cloud takes care of the heavy lifting, automatically provisioning, scaling, and upgrading components across availability zones while backing up the application cache in object storage, ensuring high performance and reliability. The managed version of Aperture provided by Aperture Cloud allows developers to easily integrate it into their applications using various SDKs. Aperture Cloud also offers state-of-the-art observability features, enabling teams to monitor policy performance and gain deep visibility into their API traffic, segmented by fine-grained labels. Backed by a scalable time-series backend and an OLAP database, Aperture Cloud delivers comprehensive insights into traffic analytics by request attributes, giving you the confidence to manage your load effectively.

Nutanix

Sr. Staff Architect

Mar 2018Jul 2021 · 3 yrs 4 mos · San Francisco Bay Area

  • I was the software architect for Nutanix Epoch team.
  • Nutanix Epoch is an Application monitoring SaaS product. Epoch runs agents in the customer premises. The agents collect infrastructure metrics and come with a high performance stream-processing engine that tracks state machine of network protocols (Network based APM). The product features a consumer-grade Analytics workbench, industry-first Application mapping, Alerting workflows for SRE’s/DevOps and consumer-grade APIs. The product requires large scale data engineering to power time-series Analytics and Data fusion.
  • I was responsible for the systems architecture of Nutanix Epoch. I was also a core member of the Product team, driving the future direction and iterating features. Since the acquisition, the Epoch software stack was scaled to large environments — monitoring tens of thousands of VMs.
  • Epoch software is fully containerized and delivered using modern DevOps tooling — Kubernetes, CI and GitOps oriented CD. The Epoch team is able to release at high velocity, providing a quick turn-around of features.
  • In addition to the standalone offering, the Epoch software stack is integrated into several Nutanix products and technologies. I was responsible for the systems architecture of these integrations:
  • Nutanix Flow: A network micro-segmentation tool for Nutanix AOS. The Epoch software stack powers the Application discovery and dependency mapping workflow in Nutanix Flow.
  • Prism: Epoch as the data backend for Prism (X-Discover.) Epoch powers Application mapping as a new workflow in Prism (X-Discover).
  • Xi monitoring: Epoch stack is the monitoring backend of several Xi services providing incidence response and Analytics workflows for Xi Operations team.
