Vidya Viswanathan — Advisor
“The world becomes the story you tell” has been the driving factor for Vidya Viswanathan for many years, probably since childhood. The ability to pick up weak signals, and connecting them to paint a bigger picture backed by a lot research has been her key strength. She is also constantly looking for innovations or positive changes in society and has the ability to pick people who will make a difference. She can find a story in everyone and has interacted with academics, industry leaders, start-ups and innovators across the world. She was often the sound board for many people that she met. She has a wide range of interests and is able to connect many events happening in the society and see the big picture. Currently, she is very passionate about Living Without Medicine because she sees it as part of a global movement to wanting to live closer to nature. Every large feature or cover story she ran in Business Standard, Business World or Business Today as one of the editors made a huge impact. Many of these stories changed the way the country saw things or at least the way an industry looked at things. Some of those stories were ahead of international publications. Those trends then became common place. Many of them were used as case studies and also for training IAS officers. She has always worked at a start-up and moved on when that industry matured. She started her career as a programmer and then set up an equity research department after an MBA in Finance. She then moved into financial journalism before writing on a variety of subjects across time. After adopting her daughter, she became part of the Aurobindo Ashram community where her daughter studied in an alternate school. In addition to writing and researching for several assignments, she pursued her interest in alternate education. She volunteered facilitating in the school and writing for children. She is passionate about India’s scientific, cultural and spiritual heritage. She is designing and advising teachers about a new history and civics curriculum for Prakriti, an IGCSE School in Noida so that we can create a generation proud of the country. She is also passionate about children's literature. In addition to buying books for the library, she is also a reading and writing coach for both students and teachers.
