At Microsoft, Tanmay currently leads the Microsoft Threat Protection Research Team and is responsible for guiding a global organization of top-notch security researchers, data scientists, applied researchers, security engineers and program managers to help protect Microsoft customers against cyber threats. Tanmay is responsible for delivering protection effectiveness through Defender and Sentinel products and services. The team's mission includes enhancing security posture, protecting customer devices, apps, perimeter, cloud, and organizations overall, and elevating and extending customer SOC with comprehensive security intelligence. Under Tanmay’s leadership, Microsoft Defender has become an industry leading security solution as recognized by analysts like Gartner, Forester, and industry benchmarks like MITRE. Prior to that at Microsoft, Tanmay led the transformation of Defender AV and the overall Defender brand to be a leader in the industry. Prior to that at Microsoft, Tanmay led the v1 of Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection Research which is now the EDR solution part of the MDE security suite. Tanmay began his career as a security researcher doing vulnerability analysis and exploit prevention working for startups like Nevis Networks and SPI Dynamics.
