Sensorflow

Senior Embedded System Engineer

May 2017May 2018 · 1 yr · Singapore

  • I was accountable for Embedded Software and Hardware development within SensorFlow and worked closely with the founders. SensorFlow provides hotels with a wireless room automation solution that reduces the energy consumption of air conditioning.
  • I joined SensorFlow as the first employee. Because SensorFlow is a startup, activities were not limited to development only. I set up an Agile process, which later evolved into a bi-weekly sprint and release cycle.
  • Within a year we developed 7 (wireless) hardware devices, including the necessary firmware. Designed and implemented a slot based MAC-layer (LoRa) and wrote device drivers. Moreover, I became the scrum master as the team grew. Supported the backend development and deployment, based on Amazon AWS (API gateway, Lambdas, DynamoDb, AWS IoT etc). I was the first to conduct the analysis for the energy savings reports, from the data the devices gathered, with help of Javascript (Node.js), Python (Pandas)

Bremote

Beehive Monitoring System - Founder

Mar 2016Dec 2022 · 6 yrs 9 mos · Netherlands

  • bRemote is a beehive monitoring system for professional beekeepers in Greenhouses, developed by four former colleagues in their free time. The monitoring system assists the beekeeper in ensuring the health of the bees.
  • As a team, we conducted a market study, gathered requirements, arranged a field installation with professional beekeepers, and we are currently conducting a paid pre-production beta launch with multiple professional beekeepers.
  • My responsibility can be best described as a Full Stack IoT Developer.
  • I am responsible for the mobile app, backend, and embedded firmware. The backend is based on Amazon AWS and mainly written in Javascript (Nodejs). It uses API-gateway, AWS IoT, IoT rules, Lambdas, DynamoDB, and is deployed with serverless scripts and Cloud formation.
  • We have outsourced the first part of the development of our mobile application, which is developed as a progressive web application (PWA), with Cordova and Angular. Extensions on the mobile application are conducted by me.
  • Future steps are to conduct more data analysis and apply Machine Learning algorithms to alarm the beekeepers of anomalies.

Skf group

Teamleader - Embedded Software Engineer (Consultant)

Mar 2016Feb 2017 · 11 mos · Nieuwegein

  • SKF is worldwide leading manufacturer and supplier of ball and roller bearings, linear motion products, precision bearings, spindles and seals. For SKF I am working on the Next generation condition monitoring called SKF Insight. This platform supports sensors that are integrated in the bearing or housing, and monitors bearing performance in real time, 24/7.
  • Dynamic bearing operating conditions – load, speed, vibration, lubrication and temperature – are sent to the SKF Cloud. In the Cloud a dashboard helps the customer to give insight on the condition of the monitored bearings. SKF reliability experts can also analyze the data and generate reports that give customers the earliest possible warning of conditions that could eventually cause costly bearing damage.
  • My tasks consist of developing a Test Framework and an Automated build environment for Continuous Integration. On the firmware side of the platform one of the tasks is to enable Over The Air (OTA) updates.

Software Engineer, Wireless Sensor Networks - Architecture, Modeling, and Simulation (Consultant)

Nov 2013Dec 2013 · 1 mo · Hightech Campus, Eindhoven, Netherlands

  • The purpose of this project (WSN-AMS) is to get a better understanding on the complex technology of wireless sensor networks on the subjects application level, network level, individual and combined behavior.
  • To make the research on the subjects mentioned above more efficient, the goal is to simulate the stack on a discrete event-based simulator. My role was to enhance the unit tests that were executed on the software stack. The tool chain of the stack was ported from Windows Cygwin gcc to Linux gcc, because of the simulation environment. A large part of my effort was put in to resolving compatibility problems. The outcome of my work should be a solid base for the modelling of a validated stack on the simulator.
  • Results:
  • Working unit tests on the new virtualized Debian Linux gcc environment.
  • Proof of concept for simulating multiple devices on Network layer level, based on the existing unit test framework.
