• Founded The Date Company London, a venture which went on to become a leading purveyor, wholesaler and online retailer of luxury artisan gourmet dates.
• We grew from making dates in my home to having our own warehouse in London (after successfully raising investment). I only employed local and unemployed individuals to re-invest back into our local communities. Shopify rated The Date Company London amongst the top retailers for dates in the UK. Clients who stocked our dates included the likes of luxury retailers Harrods.
• Successfully exited in 2020.

• Leading the Costain Accelerator and also project managing the NCE TechFest Accelerator powered by Costain.
• Drafting from experiences as the Research and Development Manager, founding a successful social enterprise, learnings on various accelerators including Allia and Virgin Start Up, Usman has been selected to project manage the NCE TechFest Competition and also design and deliver a structured programme to accelerate the runner up finalists for the TechFest Competition.

• Usman was selected for a full travelling fellowship by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust to explore diversity in STEM. Companies visited to seek industry best practice were Youtube, Linkedin, Emirates, Virgin Group, Intercontinental Hotels Group, Hilton, Harvard University, MIT university and many more.
• The findings from the travelling fellowship will be released/published in 2020.

• I am very excited to be starting in this new role working with a great team and responsible for leading the Supply Chain Engagement delivery of the legacy outcomes for the £605m East Section of the Thames Tideway Tunnel. For further details of the project see the link below.
• My primary responsibilities are to engage our supplier community as a whole, to deliver on our legacy outcomes. I will have a particular focus on Supply Chain Engagement but will also be working with the procurement team on ensuring we work with the most efficient and diverse supply chain; the commercial team on economic targets and also with the community relations team on our community investment plan. I will also represent Costain and Tideway East at the Professional Development Network.
• I will also lead STEM Volunteering and the mentoring of local small businesses and social enterprises as they are key to our approach. Together with 'Tideway', the JV Partners and the other delivery teams we aim to deliver some pioneering legacy outcomes that will reconnect Londoners with the River Thames.

• Mohammed is the lead for all Costain’s Highways Sector Research and Development whilst also the project manager for Highways England Lean R&D; harnessing the best in innovative thinking to producing technologies and new ways of working to ensure an improving performance and quality offering.
• Mohammed has a proven track record of providing solutions to challenges and is currently also the project manager for national projects which are funded by the UK Government (InnovateUK).

• Mohammed was responsible for Costain’s Highways Sector’s continuing quality performance improvement, using quality analysis and planning to achieve year on year improvement in innovation, lean construction, highways research and development and Inclusion, Equality and Diversity.
• Using various quality and performance tools and metrics, Mohammed created strategic plans to realise efficiencies in the Highways sector and its supply chain with clear direction and objectives.
• As part of this remit, he started to lead projects partnering with UK and European universities to harness the next generation of thinking in lean construction, for which HE has recently extended the contract duration and funding.
• He monitors quality performance of innovations such as the RedBite Asset Tagging system with regular quality audits, and manages innovation implementation, such as the new SiteWiFi concept, with tailored quality plans.

• My roles have diversified as my experience has grown. I bring a a wealth of experience which i have attained from various important roles. I am Currently the Supply Chain Manager at a Costain JV - Tideway East. But other roles I have held vary from being the lead for Research and Development, Performance Manager, Inclusion Lead to Quantity Surveying.

• Mohammed built on the Quantity Surveying experience of his first placement at Brighton and Hove, augmenting his responsibilities with the beginning of a growing Quality specialism.
• This began with site quality audits and inspections in which Mohammed championed the use of engineers’ daily site diaries to ensure adherence to project quality procedures and processes. He was able informally to influence the definition of the processes by providing suggestions to the Quality management team.
• He was also responsible for valuations of contracts up to £100,000, and was involved in the procurement of subcontract tenders for work packages.

• Mohammed valued daily performance by subcontractors against forecast output to determine payments against applications up to £100,000. Mohammed was responsible for performance reports and also making recommendations to help suppliers achieve targets.
• Mohammed was involved in reviewing the initial design of the contract to understand the customer’s requirements. These design reviews informed the subcontract tenders for work packages via a specification requirement issued to tenderers to price against.

• The Squared Online Certificate in Digital Marketing Qualification is a ground breaking education initiative. The marketing course has been created by Google and crowd sourced by leading employers to meet the need for high calibre digital talent and leadership.
• The digital marketing course is taught online over 6 months and features high profile guest speakers. I will graduate with a certificate endorsed by Google and certified by the IPA – with knowledge and skills that are highly sought after by brands, agencies, and start ups.

• Relocated to Nottingham as part of Costain’s Aone+ joint venture delivering the Area 7 contract for Highways England (working under the NEC form of Contract).
• Took increased responsibility for quantity surveying functions such as risk management using fault tree analysis, procuring subcontract packages and commercial and financial delivery management.
• He managed the coordination, control and delivery of commercial aspects of roads and motorways with schemes valued up to £1.5 million each.
• Was responsible for the periodic measures and valuations, invoice submission and internal reporting.
• He encouraged increasing partnering with the supply chain, for which he received the Duke of Gloucester’s Most Commended Young Surveyor Award for 2014.
• Championed innovation for continuous improvement, for example facilitating demonstration of the Intellicone system which improved workers’ safety around highways site perimeters with audible alarms fitted to traffic cones.
