About

I’m a technology and AI executive with deep experience building and scaling enterprise‑level engineering and AI organizations. I have shaped long‑range product, platform, and architectural strategies at few of the world’s most influential technology companies. Across Pinterest, LinkedIn, Yahoo! and AT&T Labs, my career has centered on leading teams that build foundational intelligence, drive platform evolution, and deliver product experiences with global impact. I operate at the intersection of AI, engineering, product, safety, and business strategy, guiding companies through technological inflection points and aligning them around durable long‑term bets. At Pinterest, I was hired to help realize the company’s vision of moving Pinners from inspiration to action through world‑class, AI‑first personalized discovery. Reporting to the CTO, I led an organization that grew from ~200 to ~1,000 engineers across AI Foundations, Consumer Engineering, Trust & Safety, and AI Product. My teams built the AI foundations for personalized discovery, launched zero‑to‑one products like creators and shopping, and advanced ranking, retrieval, CV, ads quality, and safety systems that powered billions of predictions daily. This role strengthened my operational depth, architectural judgment, and enterprise‑scale leadership. As LinkedIn’s Chief AI Officer, I lead enterprise‑wide AI strategy, long‑horizon innovation, and the Core AI teams powering intelligence across LinkedIn’s ecosystem. My remit blends C‑suite strategy with hands‑on leadership — guiding the evolution of LinkedIn’s AI platforms, advancing agents and multi‑modal capabilities, and ensuring innovations remain ethical, inclusive, and aligned with our mission to create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce. I combine large‑scale operational leadership with C‑suite strategic stewardship, spanning foundational ML, platform architecture, product alignment, safety, and cross‑company leadership. I’m driven by building durable systems, strong teams, and technologies that elevate how people work, learn, and connect — and by helping organizations navigate the next era of AI‑driven transformation with clarity, responsibility, and ambition. I have deep expertise in recommender systems and have published extensively in the area (100+ papers, including a book) and have built and scaled at least six large scale industry leading recommender systems with massive impact. I am an elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association and have served as PC chair for KDD and WWW conferences.

Chief AI Officer and VP of Consumer and Trust Engineering

Jun 2020Jan 2025 · 4 yrs 7 mos · San Francisco Bay Area

  • I was hired by Pinterest in 2020 to help realize the company’s vision of moving Pinners from inspiration to action — a shift possible only through world‑class, AI‑first personalized discovery. Reporting directly to CTO Jeremy King and partnering closely with CEO Ben Silbermann, I unified AI and engineering during one of Pinterest’s most ambitious platform evolutions. Under my leadership, Pinterest achieved major gains in engagement, personalization quality, and monetization through AI‑driven innovation.
  • I began with ~200 engineers focused on AI foundations (ranking, retrieval, personalization, computer vision). Within three months, my remit expanded to include all AI Foundations, Consumer Product Engineering, Trust & Safety, and later Product for AI. By the end of my tenure, I led a ~1,000‑person org — nearly half of Pinterest Engineering — including 6 VPs across relevance, discovery, safety, and product engineering.
  • Impact
  • I unified AI and product engineering, delivering next‑gen personalized discovery and building systems in ranking, recommendations, CV, and feed/ads optimization that powered billions of predictions daily. My teams launched zero‑to‑one products like creators and the actionability layer (shopping, product matching, visual search), driving meaningful engagement and revenue impact. I oversaw Trust & Safety to maintain a safe, inclusive platform and led AI product strategy to align foundational ML with long‑term product direction.
  • Leadership
  • I partnered with the CEO and CTO on company‑wide technology strategy, shaped long‑range architecture, scaled senior leadership, and strengthened operational rigor. I built a strong, diverse leadership team and durable AI and engineering foundations that continue to influence Pinterest’s trajectory.
  • Bridge
  • This role laid the foundation for my enterprise‑wide AI and platform strategy leadership as Chief AI Officer at LinkedIn

  • Prabhakar Raghavan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prabhakar_Raghavan) created one of the best research labs known to our industry. Being his fourth hire and prospering under his leadership is something I had never imagined would happen to me in my career. While ATT labs showed me what excellent looks like, this is where I was able to reach excellence and gain enormous confidence.

  • I worked on building novel statistical models to understand calling behavior and detect fraud in large telecommunication networks. This was a magical place where we had all the who’s who in computer science, ML, statistics, quantum computing , mathematics and networking. The fact I had the opportunity to talk to such bright minds ( Nobel laureates, Turing award winners, Fields medalists) and learn from them everyday shaped who I am as a scientist and engineer.
