About

Experienced Data & AI leader with a strong track record of delivering enterprise-scale transformation across analytics platforms. I specialise in SAS platform modernisation, data governance, and advanced analytics enablement, combining hands-on technical depth with strategic leadership. Currently leading the migration from SAS9 GRID to SAS Viya for a major UK financial services provider, supporting 2,000+ users, over 1 million code objects, and 150TB of data. My approach integrates user persona modelling, observability insights, automation, and agile delivery to ensure a smooth transition and measurable performance uplift (up to 8x faster runtimes). I’m passionate about building community and sharing knowledge—leading our internal SAS User Group to drive awareness, learning, and adoption of new Viya features. Recognised by SAS Institute as a thought leader, I’ve presented our Viya migration journey at SAS Innovate 2024 events in Las Vegas and London. Beyond the workplace, I actively support the next generation of talent as a STEM Ambassador, delivering career talks, financial education sessions, and hosting hackathon challenges at schools, colleges, and universities. With experience across data quality, metadata management, regulatory data (e.g. BCBS239), reference data, and analytics platform engineering, I bring a holistic, business-aligned perspective to data transformation. I thrive on solving complex challenges, leading high-performing teams, and helping organisations unlock greater value from their data and AI investments.

  • As Senior Manager, Data & AI, I lead the enterprise-wide migration from SAS9 GRID to SAS Viya, supporting over 2,000 users, 1 million+ code objects, and 150TB of SAS data. This transformation modernises our analytics environment, enhances performance, and drives cost efficiency.
  • Key responsibilities include:
  • ▪️ Discovery & Planning: Analysed SAS usage to assess migration readiness, developing user personas (analyst, modeller, engineer, etc.) based on tool usage, data consumption, and workload patterns. Created the strategic migration roadmap, balancing technical readiness with business criticality.
  • ▪️ Delivery Leadership: Manage an offshore team in India, establishing a factory-style migration model with bespoke automation for code and metadata conversion. Visited the team in Pune in early 2024 to strengthen delivery alignment.
  • ▪️ Technical Innovation: Built a custom tool to handle encoding challenges (WLATIN1 to UTF-8), ensuring smooth dataset migration. Proven 8x runtime improvement for workloads migrated to Viya.
  • ▪️ Internal Engagement: Lead the internal SAS User Group, hosting regular knowledge-sharing sessions and live demos to showcase new Viya capabilities and foster collaboration.
  • ▪️ External Recognition: Invited by SAS Institute to speak at SAS Innovate 2024 (Las Vegas) and SAS Innovate on Tour (London), sharing our Viya migration strategy and lessons learned.

Senior Manager, Data Governance

Jan 2022Mar 2023 · 1 yr 2 mos

  • As Senior Manager and technical lead for enterprise-wide Data Governance, I was responsible for defining and delivering strategic initiatives across Data Quality, Reference Data, and Metadata Management. My role focused on building scalable, business-aligned governance capabilities that empowered the organisation to make trusted, high-quality data-driven decisions.
  • Key Achievements:
  • ▪️ Data Catalogue Migration: Led the enterprise-wide migration from Informatica to Collibra, leveraging Python and SAS to automate metadata ingestion and improve visibility of data assets across the organisation.
  • ▪️ Data Quality Transformation: Initiated and delivered a bespoke Data Quality framework in SAS, replacing Informatica Data Quality. This not only resulted in significant licensing cost savings but also enabled a federated governance model, allowing data domain owners to directly manage and report on quality within their specialisms.
  • ▪️ Reference Data Modernisation: Oversaw the successful upgrade of a bespoke in-house Reference Data Management tool, collaborating with offshore engineering teams to enhance stability, scalability, and alignment with business needs.
  • ▪️ Regulatory Readiness – BCBS239: Supported the organisation’s BCBS239 self-assessment by ensuring all critical metrics had comprehensive metadata, lineage, and data quality coverage. Led a team of skilled engineers to extract metadata and lineage from ETL code and ensure accurate representation in Collibra Metadata. Additionally, documented and implemented business validation rules within our custom SAS-based data quality framework, delivering a structured handover to operational teams for ongoing compliance.
  • This role combined strategic thinking, technical execution, and cross-functional leadership to embed data governance into core business and regulatory processes, with a strong emphasis on solutions built within the SAS and Collibra ecosystems.

Lloyds banking group

Potfolio Management Consultant, Mortgage Risk

Jul 2008Oct 2009 · 1 yr 3 mos · Gloucester, England, United Kingdom

  • Initially joined the team as a Senior Credit Risk Analyst to evaluate portfolio credit risks and providing recommendations for improvements to credit policies and lending strategies.
  • After a short period, I was solely responsible for the department’s Management Information whilst the department recruited for a manger. In this time, I developed a user-defined automated MI solution reducing the required input from analysts. I presented this solution to the Lloyds SAS Forum at SAS headquarters in Marlow.
  • Once the MI manger was appointed, I continued to work closely with that team to bring further developments. This included a refinement of old and creation of new code to enable reconciliation between reports and increase the number of standard definitions across the department.
  • Due to the knowledge gained from the MI development, I reviewed the SAS data warehouse and liaised with the whole Credit Risk and Decision Science departments to streamline the data warehouse. This on-going redevelopment was aimed at providing clear data processing which enabling analysts to carry out their work with increased confidence, more efficiently and accurately.
  • With a thorough understanding of the data processes for Lloyds’ mortgages from acquisition to capital calculations, I was given the task to provide quarterly recommendations to committees on the update of the impairment and expected loss models, to keep both models up to date.
  • Throughout the role, I assisted and mentored junior staff members in Credit Risk theory and technical SAS skills.
  • In September 2009, I was promoted to Portfolio Consultant position within the newly formed Portfolio Management team to provide technical consultative and business expertise throughout the Credit Risk lifecycle.
  • I was also the departments fire marshal and responsible for team procurement of stationery, IT software and hardware.
