Twitter

Staff Software Engineer

Aug 2017Jun 2019 · 1 yr 10 mos · San Francisco Bay Area

  • Co-designed and implemented a multi-petabyte interactive data analytics platform called MoPub Analytics used by multiple customers within MoPub and outside. This system is being used to answer 1000s of questions every day and is well-positioned to become the backbone for many other use cases. MoPub is one of the largest RTB exchanges in the world.
  • Worked on modernizing the Twitter Ad Serving stack with a focus on migrating to a services-oriented architecture and state sharding (designed and prototyped a system similar to Google Slicer - see link). This is the business-critical system driving most of the Twitter revenue, a complex web of backend APIs, data stores, and data pipelines.

Cloudera

Software Engineer

Oct 2013Aug 2017 · 3 yrs 10 mos · San Francisco Bay Area

  • Cloudera acquired my start-up (Axemblr.com) and while being part of the organization, I've acted as a Tech Lead for multiple v1/greenfield product initiatives at the intersection of Hadoop and cloud infrastructure:
  • 1. Developed the initial version of Cloudera Director (now called Cloudera Altus Director) from scratch and acted as the tech lead for a distributed team over multiple product releases. Director is used to deploy complex Hadoop & Spark clusters on all of the major cloud providers.
  • 2. Designed and developed the infrastructure for usage metering to make it possible for Cloudera to charge based on utilization. This is a business critical system designed for high availability and data durability.
  • 3. Developed multiple components for Cloudera Altus, a Platform-as-a-Service offering focused on data engineering. I contributed to the initial product vision and architecture, CI/CD pipeline, AWS cloud integration, job management, cluster bootstrap, TCO optimizations, customer onboarding flow etc.
