About

Experienced engineering leader in AI, developer tools and open-source. My work for open-source projects has impacted hundreds of thousands of developers worldwide. Additionally, I'm a best-selling course instructor (170k+ students) in the fields of AI, Serverless Technologies, AWS and full-stack JavaScript development. Linux Foundation Program Committee member, specifically in Linux Foundation AI. I'm committed to enable millions of full-stack web developers pioneer the adoption of AI. I'm a firm believer that as Generative AI becomes more and more accessible, traditional developers will pioneer its widespread adoption and implementation. This can only be achieved through proper tooling that neatly integrate with existing tools and workflows, knowledge sharing, and safety guardrails. Recently, I have played a key role in bootstrapping impactful Generative AI projects such as Pezzo (backed by Techstars), an open-source AI monitoring and observability Platform, and CopilotKit, an open-source library that helps engineering teams integrate state-aware copilots into any application easily. Throughout my career, I've bootstrapped many high-performance engineering teams at companies such as Serverless Inc., Amplication, and Abcam (ABCM). I'm a firm believer in cross-functional teams with full domain ownership with a self-serve mentality. As various aspects of software become easier to consume (e.g. CI/CD, Gen. AI, Computer Vision, Cloud), this reality makes it possible for traditional engineering teams to be more productive, and I've been honored to play important roles in building the tools that make this possible. Passionate about developer tools, productivity boosters, distributed systems, building scalable software, observability and monitoring, Node.js, cloud-native technologies and Generative AI.

Appwrite

Vice President of Artificial Intelligence

Jun 2025Present · 11 mos · United States · Remote

  • Leading AI at Appwrite, an open-source Backend-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform with over 55,000 stars on GitHub.
  • Building and leading Imagine.dev, a vibe coding platform built on top of Appwrite's backend-as-a-service platform. Imagine projects come with a backend baked-in (server functions, SSR, auth, storage, databases). Designed and architected a multi-agent architecture with progressive context disclosure, evals, 97% input token cache rate, rolling context window with compaction/summarization, durable workflows, agent harness, AI tracing, vector search, and resumable streams. Imagine was built in a TypeScript monorepo for seamless integration and type-safety with the UI (React), back-office dashboard. Leverages Vercel AI SDK, Mastra, and others.
  • Architected and implemented an optimized, provider-agnostic sandboxing system for Imagine. Imagine projects provision instantly, and full builds with typechecks take <1s. This was achieved by setting up a custom base image for our sandboxes, customizing Vite's build behavior, and building a custom diagnostics server for LSP, formatting and linting that is highly cacheable, with pre-warming capabilities.
  • While being very hands-on, I worked to hire the core Imagine team, hiring a team of A-players from all around the globe. Setting up processes and ways of working, backlog ownership, and a robust yet quick hiring process that focuses on bringing in the best AI talent in the world. This involved working closely with recruiters in various geographies, and adjusting Appwrite's hiring process to accommodate the fast-paced nature of hiring AI talent.
  • Leading AI adoption company-wide across all functions, engineering and beyond. Transformed how features are shipped at Appwrite. Code bases are AI-ready, non-engineers are empowered to run projects locally, and all PRs spin up ephemeral preview environments. This resulted in non-engineers submitting multiple pull requests per day, significantly reducing time-to-production.

Pezzo (techstars seattle '23)

Creator

May 2023Feb 2025 · 1 yr 9 mos

  • Creator of Pezzo, a 100% open-source (MIT) AI observability and monitoring tool for traditional software teams (3,200+ stars on GitHub and millions of downloads).
  • Developed the open-source Pezzo platform, which features prompt management (using Postgres), authentication and authorization (using open-source) Supertokens, user interface using React, and prompt caching capabilities using Redis on AWS.
  • Developed Pezzo's intelligent model routing feature, which benchmarks historical request data against doezens of AI models (closed and open source) to identify opportunities for reduced cost and latency without compromising on quality. This feature often saves between 20-30% on costs and decreases latency by 50-70% per year. The data processed is PII-anonymized.
  • Built Pezzo's robust AI monitoring and analytics features, which utilizes ClickHouse, which helps thousands of companies worldwide monitor AI response quality, latency, and detect anomalies before reaching production.
  • Built and maintained the Pezzo Cloud platform and cloud infrastructure, which manages millions of Generative AI requests every month, with a 99.999% uptime.
