About

I am the Head of Product for the Reason Health business unit of Vermonster. We are building the missing products and services that will power the next generation of knowledge-focused use cases in healthcare. Stay tuned! Formerly, I lead NCQA's Information Integrity portfolio (e.g. DAV, DAV on FHIR, FHIR data quality tools) and supported our Digital Quality initiatives (FHIR-CQL based quality measures, CQL execution and translation) At 1up I oversaw our portfolio of analytics products from conception to delivery to business results. Collaborating with a wide variety of stakeholders, I drive the definition of a cohesive analytics strategy, roadmap, and supporting state-of-the-art system architecture. Additionally, I lead our relationships with select clients, partners, and technology vendors and a development team that has brought to market innovative products like “SQL on FHIR” Before 1up I was the Lead for Applications at the Harvard Medical School/Boston Children's Hospital SMART Project lead by Zak Kohane and Ken Mandl (where I authored the first SMART app) and was a core engineering team member at Elation Health, the leading EHR for primary care. I have led a wide range of projects from full-stack development of end-user features to clinical data integrations and value-based care analytics. Focus areas: analytics product strategy and management for healthcare, FHIR, ICD10, LONIC, HL7, CDS Hooks, Quality Measures, eCQMs, dQMs, CQL, VBC, HEDIS, DAV, Risk Adjustment, Medicare Advantage, HCC, system architecture, Delta Lake, event streaming, UI/UX, Information Visualization, Visual Analytics.

Fhir analytics collaborative / agents on fhir

Product Lead

Jan 2023Present · 3 yrs 3 mos · Pennsylvania, United States

  • I am the "Product Lead" for the Agents on FHIR group and the FHIR Analytics Collaborative.
  • "Agents on FHIR" is our high-signal, open, collaborative weekly meetup focused on:
  • 1. Sharing and learning from builders creating real work with agentic AI
  • 2. Discussions of Agentic AI topics with relevance to real-world builders
  • All are welcome to demo, discuss or just listen. No hype, no fluff and no gatekeeping.
  • The FHIR Analytics Collaborative's major project is the SQL on FHIR v2 standard (expected to become an official HL7 standard in Sept '26)
  • SQL on FHIR v2 is a new, open standard for the transformation of FHIR data into SQL-compatible tables.
  • By unlocking the tabular data analytics to be applied to FHIR data, SQL on FHIR fills a long-standing gap in the health data ecosystem enabling both new and existing use cases.
  • I actively facilitate the technical decisions of the group and the lead efforts around collaboration and community engagement, short and long-term planning, marketing/events, sponsorships/grants and project governance.
  • In the past year my efforts have resulted in:
  • The release of the Milestone #2 of the SQL on FHIR specification
  • The development of 13+ implementations including opensource and commercial options
  • Multiple presentations at major events e.g. FHIR DevDays
  • 2 annual x 1 day free, virtual global FHIR Analytics conference with 500+ attendees
  • The incorporation of SQL on FHIR into standard FHIR IG tooling
  • The rapid development of innovative systems and expanded use cases
