About

Check out my website for an up-to-date summary of my work: https://cameronrwolfe.me/ I am an applied researcher focusing on language models. I currently am a Senior Research Scientist on the Globalization team at Netflix. The Globalization team aims to remove language barriers from the Netflix experience as we deliver movies and TV shows to 200+ million members across 190+ countries in 30+ languages. We are responsible for the translation and cultural adaptation of all aspects of member interaction, including localized user interfaces, subtitles, and dubbing of Netflix originals. I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rice University (advised by Dr. Anastasios Kyrillidis) in Houston, TX. My research interests are related to math and machine/deep learning, including non-convex optimization, theoretically-grounded algorithms for deep learning, distributed training, and practical tricks for building better systems with neural networks. Prior to Rice, I was an undergraduate student in Computer Science at UT Austin, where I worked with the Neural Networks Research Group on research in genetic algorithms and evolutionary computation. I have a passion for leveraging basic, academic research to solve large-scale industrial problems. My primary goal is to be a bridge between academia and industry by making scientific information interpretable to all and helping to draw connections between scientific advancements and pressing industrial problems.

  • Rebuy is a personalized search and recommendations platform for D2C e-commerce brands. At Rebuy, I worked with an amazing team of engineers and researchers to build search, recommendation, and chat applications for over 10,000 e-commerce websites. Notable projects during my time at Rebuy include:
  • Deploying a personalized ranking model for recommendations
  • Building an AI-powered (hybrid) search engine from scratch
  • Creating an LLM-powered conversational search tool.

Alegion

Research Scientist

  • At Alegion, I used deep learning techniques to help humans annotate data more quickly an accurately. As an example of a notable project, I developed an online learning system for computer vision annotation tasks that could predict annotations (preventing the human annotator from having to annotate from scratch) and learn from human corrections to this prediction in real-time. This tool improved annotator efficiency in terms of total annotation time by over 2X on select computer vision tasks. In addition, I wrote a significant amount of technical content for marketing purposes, aided the sales team in integrating AI-related concepts into the company's branding and outreach, and helped to guide company strategy with respect to AI-related initiatives.
