• I’ve had the opportunity to work on various parts of netflix.com. My focus has been on acquisition (signup), web performance, account management, and customer account security. Early in my career here I was strictly an individual contributor, but I’ve found that my interests lie in leadership and running projects, and my work has shifted accordingly.
• Here’s some of what I’ve done in my 6+ years at Netflix:
• Run large, cross functional projects with various product and engineering stakeholders
• Customer referral flow
• Customer security projects like multi-factor authentication
• Web performance improvements
• Help create and maintain the website using Node.js, ReactJS, testing frameworks, LESS, and other technologies
• Write API endpoints using RxGroovy
• Gave internal and external talks about web performance and A/B testing at Netflix
• Participated in a case study by Google around web performance
• Deep dive into SEO on netflix.com and our content pages (netflix.com/title/:xyz, etc) to help non-members discover the great breadth of content on Netflix
• Work with partners in Netflix’s Hollywood office to make sure the content pages had the right assets for discovery by our non-members.
• Optimize Netflix’s signup flow with a heavy focus on the landing page (“non-member homepage”)
• Architected and developed large refactors of various parts of netflix.com
• Assist in the recruiting process by helping to source candidates and interview folks for both my team and others
• Contribute and attend user research focus studies, both domestically and abroad.
• Talk with and mentor LGBT youth looking to go into the technology sector
• Guest speaker on Front End Happy hour talking about what it takes to be a tech lead
• Participate in Netflix’s hack days, doing wild things like making a Netflix vending machine, watching Netflix in space, etc.
