About

I am a highly driven in house counsel experienced at leading and motivating teams to navigate complex legal landscapes. Presently, I am heading the legal function at Paytm Payments Services Limited - a major fintech player in the payments space in India. I am working on improving processes and building systems that will enable further scaling up of the business. I collaborate with my peers across different verticals (Finance, HR, Audit, Business, etc.) in order to attain the best outcomes for the organisation. In an earlier role, I worked alongside multiple internal and external stakeholders in order to manage contracts, employment issues and compliance across APAC. I was responsible for disputes resolution across several jurisdictions. Prior to that, as an independent legal practitioner, even though I was an outside counsel for domain leaders and start-ups, my team and I did what any in-house legal team does. From preparing standard templates for agreements to preparing policies and playbooks, training internal teams on day to day legal issues, negotiating with vendors/customers and managing outside counsels across India. I have seen my clients grow from early stage start-ups with no in-house legal team (I did that job for them from the outside) to becoming household names. I understand businesses and am therefore able to present complex legal issues in a comprehensible manner, allowing the stakeholders to properly weigh all the legal options and make informed pragmatic decisions that minimize/mitigate legal risks. I have passionately defended freedom of speech while representing a major media house. My mantras for success are "keep it simple" and "respond quickly".
