About

I am a Principal Software Architect with ~20 years of experience in building highly scalable, reliable, distributed backend systems. I have expertise in distributed databases, cloud-native architectures, microservices, and architecting for multi-DC and hybrid cloud environments. As part of Flipkart's Cloud Platforms Group, I have been at the forefront of a massive, company-wide cloud infrastructure transformation journey. From IaaS centric infrastructure where each team would manually deploy and manage their software, we moved to a cloud native infrastructure with Kubernetes and Managed Services at its core. I led development of the DBaaS portfolio of products which consisted of Distributed SQL, Traditional SQL, In-Memory and Wide-Column databases. Collectively, they now serve 1500+ internal clients, including the some of the most critical and demanding services. The widespread adoption of the DBaaS services has improved developer productivity, increased reliability, and have helped enforce best practices and compliance requirements across the company.

  • I own the DBaaS product portfolio for Flipkart’s internal cloud platform, consisting of four database products - Distributed SQL, Traditional SQL, In-Memory DB, Wide-Column DB. They power 1500+ services with a data footprint of multiple petabytes.
  • Built the Distributed SQL DBaaS product from scratch. This was one of the early large-scale adoptions of TiDB (starting in 2020), and among the first to run TiDB on Kubernetes. Currently the product is powering 75+ critical use cases at Flipkart, with 130TB+ data footprint.
  • Built the In-Memory DB DBaaS product from scratch. This is among first production deployments of Aerospike on Kubernetes in the world, and one of the largest deployments of Aerospike in India. Currently it serves 300+ critical use cases at Flipkart, and has scaled up to 95 million requests per second.
  • Led the efforts to modernize the Traditional SQL DBaaS product. This involved developing a custom operator to run MySQL on Kubernetes, and using MySQL group replication.

  • Developed fault-tolerant storage solutions, enabling Juniper’s routers to self-recover from file system corruptions. Reduced failures and product returns significantly, earning the Excellence Star Award.
  • Optimized memory management for Juniper’s SRX product family, enabling the mapping of a large amount of device memory within the constrained 2GB virtual memory space on the MIPS32 processor architecture. This enabled the Packet Forwarding Engine to work with more modern hardware accelerators. This improved feature scalability and retained the competitive edge.
  • Designed & implemented control plane software for Power over Ethernet (PoE) in Juniper’s SRX product line.
