Vanmoof

Senior Cloud Engineer

Jan 2022Jan 2023 · 1 yr · Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands

  • I was part of a brand new platform team for a >10y organization that built an internal cloud platform based on Kubernetes and AWS
  • > We built our own VanMoof-specific Kubernetes platform on top of EKS with batteries included: networking (Cloudflare+AWS LB controller), monitoring (Prometheus+Grafana+Loki+Mimir), authentication & authorization (Cloudflare Access+Okta), continuous deployment and integration (ArgoCD+Atlantis)
  • > We created and owned a unified access controls workflow for AWS, Github, Kubernetes, Cloudflare and Okta in-code. Managers, engineers and IT all used pull requests (and approvals) to update permissions for their colleagues and reports
  • > Did internal DevRel for the platform - every deliverable was also accompanied by an announcement, presentation+workshop/demo and getting started guides, published in internal channels and the Engineering Handbook that I kickstarted. Onboarded and educated 5+ developer teams to Kubernetes and Terraform
  • > Automated update cycles using a combination of Dependabot and Github Actions: 3-5 PRs per day were automatically validated, approved and merged with no human intervention
  • > Created a culture of working in public, as meetings and decisions of our team were made in the open, and users tuned in to listen or take part

Zivver

Senior DevOps Engineer

Mar 2020Dec 2021 · 1 yr 9 mos · Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands

  • Zivver's scaleup stage was an excellent opportunity for me to work with both people and tools to deliver process and infrastructure improvements.
  • Some of the things achieved in my time at Zivver:
  • > Took a release process from a monthly (or bimonthly) to a daily release cadence, achieving no-downtime deployments on the way
  • > Set up automated vulnerability scanning DevSecOps pipelines across backend (Scala-sbt), frontend (Typescript-npm) and .Net ecosystems into CycloneDX SBOMs
  • > Set up automated dependency updates across Docker, GItlab, Terraform, Sbt
  • > Containerized a largely monolithic Scala Dropwizrd backend for delivery in ECS and also took its build time down from 55m to <20.
  • > Created a primary collaborative docs space for engineers at Zivver: The Engineering Handbook, and organized presentations to educate developers on infrastructure, as well as an AWS Immersion Day
  • > Awarded Zivver's first ever "Like a Rocket" award for my cross-team impact as a member of the backend, security and DevOps teams
  • Keywords: Gitlab, Gitlab CI, sbt, npm, maven, JVM, Dropwizard, Scala, RAML (I know :/ ), ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana, Ansible, Terraform, Grafana, Prometheus
  • AWS EC2, ECS, Fargate, S3, SES, SQS, Cloudwatch, Cloudfront, most of the AWS stuff

Thalatta, llc

Founder

Apr 2019Present · 7 yrs

  • We founded a SaaS company with a strong focus on automation and DevOps workflows. We proposed and implemented a system for stock management and automation.
  • Features include:
  • > Completely automated testing and deployment, using a series of CircleCI pipelines and Kubernetes environments
  • > Fully virtualized, scalable, MQ-based microservice architecture
  • > Support listing of stock across multiple channels such as Amazon or Ebay with minimal implementation required
  • This has been a pivotal project for the startup we founded and I led a team of 3 developers to deliver it.

  • I worked primarily on the C2MON project. Some of my highlights:
  • > Built a full virtualization pipeline producing Docker images for each module in C2MON's stack
  • > Created a ready-to-deploy, batteries included Kubernetes cluster for the entire project
  • > Built a chaos engineering framework and run our MQ layer through it, exposing a critical production issue
  • > Presented in CERN Spring Campus about DevOps, being the only technical student presenting and the youngest presenter in the event's biannual 7 year history
  • > Built a new website for the project

  • I created a Java application for businesses to automate several processes such as:
  • Updating millions of prices
  • Adding new products to their stock
  • Discovering profit opportunities across entire markets
  • The deliverable is usually a JavaFX desktop application. Additionally I set up multiple Spring/Hibernate servers to collect application data and authenticate the users.
  • Currently in version 3, multiple high level vendors in the European market use Cardgame Suite as a mission-critical business component
