About

I’m a staff software engineer, founder, and product creator passionate about building technology that makes a positive impact. I’ve designed and delivered products ranging from profitable B2C SaaS platforms to large-scale backend services, with a focus on clean, scalable systems and meaningful user experiences. I’m the creator of Jumble Journal, a daily journaling platform that helps people grow sustainably through the FIRE journaling framework. Originally an experiment in zero-knowledge architecture, Jumble evolved into a top Product Hunt launch and is now a profitable platform where hundreds of entries are created each day. I also built Air Books, an OCR-powered app that turns a photo of your bookshelf into a fully searchable, shareable digital bookstore—making it effortless to share books and encourage reading. My career began in C++ firmware engineering at Seagate, continued with API and enterprise integrations at SafetyCulture (an Australian unicorn), grew through working on monetization at Dashlane, where I also helped design a patented a zero-knowledge SSO solution now in production. Along the way, I’ve worked in Node.js, Golang, and distributed microservice architectures, leading technical initiatives and delivering solutions at scale. Outside of work, I’m a lifelong learner and writer. I blog about technology, business, history, and philosophy, and I’m an advocate for the daily habit of writing to clarify thought and creativity. I also enjoy rugby (played for 10 years), endurance sports, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, where I recently earned my blue belt. 📧 Reach me at tony.oreglia@gmail.com 🌐 More about my work at tonycodes.com

  • Designed and implemented microservice to migrate customer data across AWS hosting regions. The architecture utilized AWS SQS to store migration tasks. The service migrates data idempotently and is robust even to failures occurring mid-migration. Built entirely in Javascript using AWS node SDK.
  • Worked on integrations team to deliver a full-featured public API enabling customers to create and retrieve SafetyCulture data. The API enabled customers to utilize their SafetyCulture's data in a wide range of novel applications like integrations with Business Intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.), automatic notifications, integrations with scheduling software and much more. The services are written in Javascript (ES6).
  • Worked in a tight-knit team to design and implement an event sourced backend architecture to support a range of features. The architecture used Google Protocol Buffers to serialize data, Kafka to store events and gRPC API for the client to connect. Microservices all written in Golang.
