Designed and developed a system to help capture, analyze and track the user's moods and emotions during the day - www.wemoody.com. This system was able to help the user track the various ups and downs and experiences in a day and help visually analyze the data at the end of a given period.
This data could be mined and helped in personality assessment and figuring out what works and does not work for the user. Such a personality metric also assisted the user in finding people who are 'like minded' and share similar likes, dislikes (turn-offs) and excitements. The potential of this data is enormous e.g dating, companionship etc.
The application also introduced the concept of private and public groups.
The system was built from the ground up exposing PHP services consumed via JSON over HTTP.
The clients were browser and desktop applications. The service was built independent of the client and exposed APIs for consumption.

Built a prototype of the application to connect families via social media. Built the first version of a graphing visualizer to identify family connections and built a family tree around the user. Such a visualization helped the user communicate and create custom events - birthdays, anniversaries etc. with the members of the family.
The application used the family tree as its main metaphor to communicate and navigate through the site.
This was an amazing learning experience. The visualizer was built on top of YUI and was portable across browsers. The backend was designed in Java.
Looking back this would have been successful if it was built as a Facebook app.
