Water Management and present situation of water treatment process of Essar Oil Limited

May 2015Jun 2015 · 1 mo · Raniganj

  • Where studies have been conducted on present pre-treatment facilities like pressure sand filter, activated carbon filter, micron cartridge filter and on reverse osmosis process which is the main treatment way. Suggestions have been given on activated carbon adsorption process. In order to produce activated carbon, they are using a coconut shell as a carbon source because it is readily available agricultural waste byproduct.
  • Although studies proved that coconut husks can be carbonized much more efficiently than coconut shells due to their flammability but utilizing the husks as a filter medium proved unsuccessful due to fine charcoal residues leaching into the water during filtration. The husk-generated carbon was not very durable and physically broke down in the treatment system very quickly. Using the more durable coconut shell-based carbon eliminated this issue. However, coconut husks proved to be a useful combustion medium to improve the carbonization of the coconut shells. The remaining carbonized coconut husks could be pulverized into charcoal briquettes with a binder—cassava root, aloe, and banana are often used—and subsequently used for cooking purposes to decrease waste as well as to decrease the need for local residents to cut down trees for charcoal production.
  • So, it has been suggested to incorporate coconut husk based activated carbon with perfect proportion with coconut shell based activated carbon in order to enhance the process and reduce the cycle time for treatment.

Cracking of methane/natural gas using solar concentrator based reactor to produce hydrogen: A review

Apr 2014Jun 2014 · 2 mos · Patna

  • ABSTRACT:
  • Hydrogen is widely produced and used for our day-to-day needs but also it has the potential to be used as fuel for industry or can be used as an energy carrier for stationary power. Hydrogen can be produced by many different processes like from fossil fuels (SMR, Coal gasification, Cracking of natural gas); renewable resources (electrolysis, wind, etc.); nuclear energy (Thermochemical water splitting). Few processes have been discussed briefly. Cracking of methane has been given more emphasis in this project for production of hydrogen. Several thermal cracking processes with their reactor has been discussed. Use of solar reactor (consisting of solar concentrator) for methane cracking, seems to be an interesting strategy in present time, has been discussed and compared among different reactors.
  • PROGRESS:
  • In this project, we have shown that although in catalytic cracking the temperature requirement is less than that of the thermal process but requirement of an extra amount of methane will rise up the production cost. Again problem with this process is production of CO2 and its separation requires extra amount of energy. That’s why we are interested in solar thermal process and showed its future prospective which include energy optimization and production of high heat content hydrogen by using solar power.
