  • Next Gen Cloud Debugging
  • The system combines context with big data to help developers track and find problems in their app in real-time
  • Application architectures are growing in complexity. Even basic apps have many interconnected micro-services. They use a wide variety of closed and open software stacks with multiple points of failure. Interconnections results in ripple effects through the application topology based on external fluctuations. Instances and services frequently come up and go down dynamically based on load. Data is flowing in and out of the application to the internet and intra node interactions also keep changing. This trend is expected to grow in the future. This has made it hard to track health, prevent downtime and debug issues using current tools and has business performance implications as well. Nuvidata builds solutions to address these issues

Created a background job framework is available in order to make it easy to build application semantics on top of user and analytics data. This framework executes MR in the background and pins data ranges into memory.
  • Key design elements - 0 single points of failure, No shared app state, Access pattern driven data model and pipeline design, End to End Horizontal Scalability across application, cache and persistent storage tiers, Highly Available with all tiers distributed across more than 1 zone. Persistent data storage designed for high write throughput and random read access. Low latency reads from multiple levels of cache
  • Designed an Offline Android Client SDK for accessing the platform API from games. The SDK and Platform are designed to reduce server side load dramatically and allows for a few servers to host millions of users.

Embedio inc

Sr Developer

Jan 2002Oct 2003 · 1 yr 9 mos · Orange County, California, United States

  • Embedio is an embedded systems startup that develops technology and applications to optimize performance in converged media devices.
  • Worked on porting the Sun Java Virtual Machine to Embedio’s version of embedded linux (Pavo TM)
  • Implemented a streaming audio/video server for streaming multimedia data to handheld devices like iPaq running Embedio’s version of embedded Linux branded as Pavo TM. The streaming server is a Linux based application that streams data over the RTP protocol using UDP. The receiver is also a UNIX application running on Pavo. The server is designed in C++ while the client is written in C with an intermediate RTP layer that is used by both the server and the receiver to send and receive RTP packets. The receiver has integrated MPEG Audio Video decoders for playback. Packets are buffered on the receiver side before playback in a hash structure based on time-stamps so that easy access to current packets is possible. The server uses multicasting to ensure that the packets reach only the intended receivers. XML is used to dynamically create the UI and send relevant program information to the player
  • + Client demos with Japanese customers
  • Operating environments: Embedded Linux, Linux
  • Technologies used: MPEG, IP multicasting, XML
  • Protocols: UDP, RTP
  • Languages: C/C++/ASM

Greenborder

Sr Developer/Co-Founder

Jan 2001Jan 2002 · 1 yr · San Francisco Bay Area

  • GreenBorder was a play in the security space. My primary responsibility was to create several key components towards a product prototype. The product was a security sandbox that allows clients to browse the web and read email without having to worry about viruses and malware getting downloaded affecting the system
  • Design: Each application gets its own virtual registry and file system along with some other components. This is used to protect applications on the host computer from unknown viruses. The system worked based on the concept of allowing viruses to execute successfully within the address space of the host application (ex. MS Outlook, IE, MS-Word, MSN Messenger etc) without allowing them to touch real resources on the client computer. This project had a kernel and an application layer. The kernel layer constituted of device drivers for managing and modifying application system calls and network filtering. I wrote the base system call driver as well as user mode components. The base driver traps registry and file systems operations done by a target application and redirects them to fake locations. A small language was created to create fake data in the locations. Modifiers like read-only read -write could be set on the fake data. The driver was a filter driver that works by modifying Windows 2000 system call tables (_KeServiceDecriptorTable) to point to routines inside the driver. This allowed the driver to see all registry and file system operations going on in the system. As an optimization I implemented a scheme that allows the driver to see operations on thread level. This is done by modifying the pointer in the Kernel thread block to point to a dummy call table that the driver creates on the fly. This allows calls to be seen on a per thread basis. It required some modifications to the Service dispatcher function _KeSystemService
  • + Successfully implemented product prototype on schedule, which helped the company secure funds
  • + Acquired by Google
