Director, Last Mile Under the Roof Technology

I led the Product and Technology division that powered the operations at thousands of last mile delivery hubs worldwide (North America, Europe, India, Japan, and Middle East), processing multi-billion packages every year. My organisation manages the entire lifecycle of a package inside a hub as well as across multiple hubs in the last mile journey of a package, both in forward and reverse leg scenarios. The packages received at the hubs were sorted and processed using a combination of manual tools, automated systems, and robotic processes.
We obsessed on enabling high quality operations in terms of timely and promised dispatch, enabling delivery speed and customer convenience, building automation for efficient operations, and enabling safety and high quality experience for our hundreds of thousands of associates worldwide. My organization consisted of product management, engineering, and program management functions, spread across the US (Seattle, Austin), Canada, India (Delhi, Bangalore) and Europe (Luxembourg, UK).

Some of our applications which are being used by over a billion users across the globe include APUS Launcher, Message Center, APUS Booster, New Hunter, ACE Camera, etc. I head the India R&D center for APUS Group, which is responsible for building technology in the areas of Computer Vision, Android, and NLP. The role involves leading the technology charter and teams for these areas, as well as taking care of the Operations and HR for the R&D center.
The computer vision engine, which we built from scratch, can work completely on a mobile device (in offline mode), and supports various capabilities like detecting objects in a photo, detecting age and gender of a person, creating a fun sticker from face, building advanced prisma-like filters, swapping faces of two persons, detecting background in a photo, and so on. We have also built one of the most powerful Camera platforms, using our computer vision engine as well as the OpenGL stack available on the phone. Another area we focus on is NLP, where our goal is to understand Indian languages. We have built solutions for finding important keywords in a given text, detecting the category of the text, and also finding whether a given text is spam or not (for SMS messages and emails).

Siftr was a VentureCatalysts backed photo curation platform, powered by proprietary state of the art deep learning technology. Using Deep Learning based insanely powerful technology, we built a mobile app for consumers which helped them clean their junk photos from their phones. This was the first of its kind app, and helped mobile consumers save their previous phone storage and time, tremendously. This app got featured by LifeHacker, TheNextWeb, News18, CNBC TechGuru, and more, and analyzed more than a million images per day.
My role included leading the product vision, defining the technology design and architecture, building partnerships with the OEMs, marketing activities for the product, raising funds, and running day to day operations (finance, HR, etc.).
