• Tasked with upgrade of Oracle APEX from various legacy versions to current version. This involves cloning the database to test environment and then upgrading the APEX applications in each of these databases. Thereafter, liaise with clients / end users on documenting various findings in their day-to-day functioning with these applications. Corrective steps included setting up correct browser permissions to liaising with APEX developers in amending code to match end user's satisfaction. This is because of various IE11 browser permission restrictions.
• Upgraded Oracle Failsafe from 3.4 to 4.1 on 2 Windows clustered servers. Total downtime was less than 10 minutes.
• Upgrading various databases from their 11.2 version to Oracle 12c version. This again involves cloning the databases to test environment and running end to end tests which involves heterogeneous data services from MS SQL server. Installed SQL server and created TEST databases to facilitate end to end testing.
• Consolidating and migrating a 32bit 11.2.0.1 database to a 64bit Windows 12c version using datapump.

• Migrated an in-premise EPPM P6 Primavera database to Oracle service cloud adhering to Oracle's restrictions and conditions. This involved changing NLS characterset and advising client on the possible loss of data. As part of migration activity, installed Oracle 12c on AWS and documented the correct methodology.
• Installed Weblogic servers on Windows and Linux environment to migrate Unifier environment.
• Administered SQL Server 2014, checking backups, assist in cloning of database for test teams, replication using Oracle GoldenGate technology.
• Set up 8 node Hadoop cluster in AWS for in house training for Hadoop Mapreduce trainees..

• Part of a 24x7 production DBA team overlooking around 8000 instances globally from command center in Sheffield. Databases ranges from versions 7.3 to 11.2, clustering from Oracle CRS, HP Service Guard, Sun Clusters, Tru Cluster and bespoke clusters. Applications range from stand alone web based monitoring application to one single database managing the whole BT retail infrastructure. HA and Disaster recovery implemented through Standby databases, traditional netbackup, RMAN backup, Commvault backup, NetApp to EMC timefinder Snap technology. • Administering Clustered infrastructure. • Upgrading databases, cluster and Grid infrastructure. • Multiple patching of Cloud infrastructure with zero downtime. • Resolving post patching and upgrade issues, namely change in performance metrics. • Monitoring performances using statspack, AWR, ASH reports as well as core tuning using tracings. • Liaising with Oracle Corp. in identifying bug patches or workarounds through high priority SR • Recovering data corruption either logical or media through backup & recovery strategies. • Deploying, rebuilding standby databases and ensuring they are in sync • Switching over or failing over to standby databases on demand, using DG broker as well as non broker configuration. • Configuring flashback technology and attend to issue thrown due to this feature. • Deployed and configured Oracle GoldenGate for DB migration / consolidation purposes. Troubleshooting of Oracle GoldenGate • Advising application owners to use modern, version specific new features. • Adhering to various change control mechanism while implementing high profile system changes • Providing root cause analysis to projects and platforms if service had been affected for more than 15 minutes
• We also had few hundred SQL server databases. Although there were dedicated SQL server DBAs, due to my 24x7 shift commitment, I have worked on SQL server issues.

• As a software analyst, my duties included developing sql scripts, shell scripts, kix scripts of windows, designing database components. I was assigned to “court services” client, managing applications and databases spanning over 85 sites. Database versions ranged from 7.3 to 10.1.0 . Here are some salient features:
• Modified a query block in Powerbuilder application on the 2nd day of employment. This query block used to either take over 15 minutes to complete successfully or fail after 15 minutes. After modification this query completed in few seconds.
• Modified a PL/SQL script that used to gather data from multiple tables to generate data for printing letters. This script used to take around 4-5 hours to complete. After rewriting the code using performance efficient logic, the execution duration came down to less than 10 minutes.
• Re-wrote an existing stored procedure which used to fetch data from 85 sites and process it as per business logic. Execution time reduced from 30 minutes per site to less than 2 minutes per site.
• Submitted a POC to the client using HTML DB / APEX feature of Oracle RDBMS
• Re-wrote a SQL*LDR application to exploit Oracle external tables. This script greatly reduced the ETL duration of loading raw data from local council into DB
• Designed and implemented a datamart, extracting data from archived log files spanning over 8 years, using logminer utility and transform data as per business logic.
• Designed and implemented database migration & consolidation from v7.3 and to 10g. Instead of re-writing application code, implemented Virtual Private Database to maintain site level partitioning of data.
• Migrated data from v7.3 to 10g using an intermediary 8i database and copy command and DB links.
• As a production DBA monitored databases for tablespace utilization, performance monitoring using v7.3 UTLBSTAT / UTLESTAT scripts and OEM to manage 10g version database.

• I got my first software career break in this organization. Applications were developed on 8i database using Oracle Forms and Reports as well as Visual Basic.

• During my tenure here, I got the opportunity to develop applications using Forms & Report and PL/SQL procedures. My extensive mechanical engineering experience helped me in quickly understand the inefficient code logics. This resulted in developing / rewriting stored procedures to give maximum efficiency.
• I was able to rewrite a procedure which used to be run quarterly and consume 36 hours of DB time. After rewriting this code, the run duration was under 4 hours , thus enabling this procedure to run every weekend instead of every quarter. This helped end user to get relatively up-to-date data.
• I had also interacted with end user extensively to acquire full business logic while developing this code.
• Coached and mentored other trainees who were recruited periodically by this organization.

• I am a mechanical engineer by training and I had worked in various organization during this period. This included design & development of mechanical tools and fixtures, manpower management, stores and materials management. After over 15 years in this field, I got a taste of software when I used to type my letters in WORDSTAR application and do simple programming in LOTUS123. This exposure gave me enough confidence in leaving the mechanical engineering field behind and take a leap into software field. I took a 3 month course in Oracle RDBMS and Forms & Reports development.
