• Worked on one of the largest and longest running social networks for an alternative community. Large community, large amounts of legacy, and a small team made for a huge range of problems to solve. As a team we stabilized and reduced the overall response time for the entire site, cleaned up millions of extraneous queries per second, rewrote or removed entire legacy services, prototyped a new version of the site written in React, and cleaned up a huge amount of legacy JS and CSS, all while improving uptime and availability of the site. I rewrote and replaced the ad serving infrastructure with an in-house solution, serving millions of ad impressions per day.

• Worldly. A network for travel enthusiasts to share their experiences and amazing photography. Worldly was written in AngularJS with Rails acting as an API. While at Worldly I rewrote and redesigned a large amount of features. A feature I’m most proud of would be an editing system for experiences that was both beautiful, 100% responsive, and allowed users to add content in an intuitive way.

• Vulume. I Founded Vulume as the technical co-founder with 2 other co-founders. We bootstrapped a project collaboration and sharing tool for professionals who work in the Built Environment. We developed an idea to full working product with a very small team. Working on Vulume I grew as a leader and manager. As the only technically co-founder I designed and built most of Vulume, eventually transitioning to hiring and managing other developers.

• Worked on a new B2B infrastructure for daily deals in a large Rails codebase. The acquisition of homerun.com by Rearden Commerce sped up the pace of development for homerun.com and spurred new hires. I was the first remote developer. First call on the hiring of new developers, doing multiple interviews per week, some candidates which were then hired for senior positions.

• I was contracted to maintain and develop the next version of a successful Facebook game. Gowalla was acquired by Facebook and the contract was ended. The time I had at Gowalla was eye-opening and a huge learning experience for me. I had the opportunity to learn about scaling software, and managing the operations of large systems.
