I did the 3 months intership at Microsoft IDC and during the internship added the functionality in DirectAccess for providing support for Unmanaged Clients
DirectAccess provides auto-connect facility for Remote Clients. Remote Clients can directly connect to corpnet resources without first connecting to VPN. DirectAccess for Unmanaged Clients is provisioning unmanaged clients for DirectAccess. But the limitation is that DirectAccess works only on managed clients i.e. clients which have been inside corpnet before. This project aimed at provisioning unmanaged clients i.e. clients which have not been inside corpnet ever for DirectAccess. DirectAccess works on managed clients because the managed clients have group policies required for DirectAccess. So, this project aimed to provision unmanaged clients with these group policies making DirectAccess available on the client.
I developed three main components.
1. Configuring client for DirectAccess - This component includes a powershell script(.ps1) which configures client registry settings with values from XML file.
2. Client GPO(Group Policy Object) - This component exports Client GPO and creates a package for client. This component includes powershell script(.ps1) which reads GP-Registry Values and writes them into XML file which is packaged along with client script into .exe file using iexpress.
3. Website - The website was created to download client package. This website together with client package was hosted on IIS(web server).
