I'm an independent web developer living in Melbourne, Australia. Over my career I've gone through phases of wanting to work with the biggest computation problems, the biggest scale of userbase, and the biggest challenge to my own skills - starting and trying to grow a company, Goodfilms. These days I'm most interested in pushing the web forward, so I split my time between freelancing on challenging front-end builds, working on small open-source projects, and speaking at conferences. My passion lies in finding use-cases for technology that appears unusual, even friviolous, and using that to help people understand the technology itself.

One major project I took on in my time there was planning and implementing a fairly complex, yet remarkably smooth change of hosting environment.

Over my 4 years here, I had a variety of roles and responsibilities. My first role was to help transition a legacy modelling system to Ruby & C++ on a proprietary platform called OmniTRANS. In 2007, I became the R&D lead on a 2-year project to develop a large extension to the model - a distributed audience measurement system for the Outdoor Advertising industry. In this time I gained experience in a multitude of languages, such as Java, Scala, Ruby & C++, and a wide range of runtime environments. I also helped develop new surveys and the resulting models for audience interaction within physical spaces such as shopping centres and airports.
