I've spent 15 years working on enterprise systems in financial services - at JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, UBS, and now BlackRock. My journey has taken me across some of the most critical and regulated corners of finance - from fund tax reporting and regulatory transaction reporting, through the painstaking work of decommissioning a legacy mainframe carrying billions of records, into client onboarding data validation, risk assessment platforms, and most recently index engineering for one of the world's largest asset managers. But the most valuable things I've learned didn't come from the projects themselves. They came from the moments in between - the late nights staring at a thread dump, the production issue nobody could reproduce, the architecture decision that seemed right until it wasn't. Those moments taught me to slow down, ask better questions, and look beyond the obvious. I've also learned that technology is only half the story. Understanding why a system matters to the business - who depends on it, what breaks when it fails, what it actually means in the real world - that's what separates good engineering from great engineering. Things I care about: - Understanding the business deeply, not just the technology. - Root cause analysis - finding the real problem, not just the visible symptom. - Architecture and performance that holds up under production load. - Building engineering teams that are thoughtful, curious, and delivery-focused.
