About

I am a data networking polymath with experience building, maintaining, migrating, monitoring and securing wireline and wireless networks for real-time IP service delivery, embedded systems / IoT, cloud architecture, cybersecurity, and DevOps. I have worked nationally and internationally, for large companies and small startups, in multiple positions, as both a manager and as an individual contributor. I am currently working in cybersecurity with Centripetal, the industry's first zero trust packet security service, redefining the way networks are protected using cyber threat intelligence (CTI) at an unprecedented scale. In the past: • At Exium I evangelized and deployed a Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution based on a 5G architecture for MSPs/MSSPs and their enterprise customers. • At Facebook / Meta I built private 4G and 5G networks integrating private cellular small cells (CBRS) with US mobile operator networks (i.e., neutral host). • At Aporeto I evangelized their zero-trust cloud security solution, securing any type of workload (bare metal, VM, container, process, or function) using application identity. This reduces or eliminates the need for traditional perimeter solutions such as East-West Firewalls and VPNs, while scaling elastically to support any cloud. • At both SpiderCloud and Ruckus (later CommScope) we built mobile networks on multiple continents using small cells coupling high density 3G/4G/5G coverage and capacity with IP policy enforcement and traffic handling, enabling MNOs and enterprises to deliver services like private LTE, IoT, and mobile edge computing via licensed, unlicensed, and shared spectrum technology. • At Agito, I designed and deployed enterprise FMC solutions to enable seamless roaming between Voice over WLAN and Cellular Data, using SIP to integrate with PBXs and Unified Communications systems. • I provided product and technical management for Ipsum & Iptivia’s IP control plane monitoring system for OSPF, IS-IS, Multiprotocol BGP, and IP Multicast for real-time IP services including IPTV and VoIP. • With the Flarion team, I built next-gen wireless networks using Flash-OFDM across three continents for mobile network operators. We designed and tested airlink, core routing, and signaling systems for mobile broadband which evolved into today’s 4G LTE air interface and Evolved Packet Core (EPC). • At Torrent, we deployed the industry's first IP routing technology supporting both full internet routing table lookups and advanced IP QoS and multicast features at gigabit speeds, enabling real-time services.

  • Centripetal has designed the CleanINTERNET solution, a network-security-as-a-service (NSaaS) providing organizations with a threat-intelligence-based defense against Internet threats and attacks, known and unknown. The service allows organizations to enforce dynamically updated rules and policies against incoming and outgoing network traffic from any Internet connection.
  • Using a combination of human and AI-driven analytics, CleanINTERNET allows organizations’ cyber defenses adapt to the dynamic nature of threats and attacks, regardless of security risk level. By enforcing dynamic policies derived from real-time threat intelligence, the service triages an organization’s threat events to target those requiring proactive treatment before damage occurs. This dramatically decreases threat noise, thus reducing the workload on security analysts and SOC personnel.
  • CleanINTERNET can be tailored for any organization and risk profile, regardless of industry segment or vertical.

Exium

Virtual Field CTO

Aug 2021Jun 2025 · 3 yrs 10 mos · Texas, United States · Hybrid

  • Evangelizing and supporting development of a next generation Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) product based on a distributed 5G architecture. While the system architecture is based on 5G, all types of IP traffic and transport, both wired and wireless, can be secured simultaneously.
  • The system utilizes a standards-based 5G Core-to-Edge platform and combines multiple cybersecurity and network Containerized Network Functions (CNFs) including SD-WAN (rate shaping), Next Gen Firewall, IDS/IPS, CASB, Secure DNS, Secure Web Gateway (SWG), Web Application & API Firewall (WAAF), and Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
  • The system is accessed using highly secure, certificate-based VPN technologies, and can support all major operating system platforms using end-point agents/clients. It can also support standalone devices (IoT, IP cameras & desk phones, etc.) via standalone x86-based gateways, either virtualized or bare metal.
  • The Exium service is deployed as a SaaS offering, but can and has been deployed as a standalone, fully on-premise solution.
  • An integrated Elastic data-lake stores all meta data from an organization's traffic flows for archiving, retrieval, and analysis. An AI/ML-based XDR mines this data lake, allowing near-real-time monitoring of an organization’s cybersecurity posture, as well as autonomic provisioning of policies to mitigate threats.
