Hey, I'm Tania Mukhopadhyay — a cinematographer/DOP/ Gaffer and over the past 15 years I have worked on quite a few challenging projects right from the time of being a film school student. I am trained to use Arri 435, 35 mm celluloid film camera, on one hand, and have beautifully migrated to Arri Alexa — digital cinematography. Professionally, I started out on TV Reality shows, TV drama series, documentaries. This has taught me to work on a tight schedules with live editing, heavy glamour lighting, multi-cam operations on one hand. A completely different scenario with working in remote places, with no assistant, minimal budget, and sensitive topics while working on documentaries, especially the Investigative Documentary of Women in Sports or the one on Itkhori, located in a politically disturbed remote area of India. In between all of these, I have also worked as a project manager on a commercial documentary for a year on ECL- Eastern Coal Fields, one of the oldest coal mines in India. This was the most challenging of all though. I have led the whole team, planned the whole shoot, did all the recces, went inside coal mines multiple times, did research and interviews. But my main skills in action lies in working in feature films and short films. I have turned scripts into reality visually. I have worked in close coordination with the Director and DOP. I play with colors to create a mood board and symbols. I enjoy doing detailed storyboarding. I have led the camera & light teams even while working as 2nd AC. A proper light design diagram plan based on location recce, position of the sun , weather conditions, light & camera equipment budgeting, negotiating with the EP, leading the light boys, electrical dept. and the grip department , giving proper instructions and practicing team -work. I work in coordination with the Art /Production design team, Directors Team, Edit and colour grading team. I give more time to pre-production, and I enjoy and believe in systematic planning and organizing. It gives lots of flexibility later . Right now, I am looking for my next project as a DOP/ Associate Cinematographer/ 1st AC/ Gaffer.
