  • For more information, see my Lund University homepage: https://portal.research.lu.se/en/persons/blerim-emruli/
  • I'm the course responsible for the Artificial Intelligence in Business - Concepts,Applications and Challenges (INFA45), Decision Support Systems (INFC35), Business Intelligence (INFN45), and Business and Artificial Intelligence (INFN65) courses at the BSc and MSc levels, respectively. In particular, in the spring 2021 I developed INFN65 from scratch as a new strategic course within Lund University School of Economics and Management.
  • Based on my approach that the courses that I'm course responsible shall be designed and updated from the perspective that "jobs and education go hand in hand", I boosted the collaboration with local industry experts from the region of Scania (Skåne in Swedish), with a focus on the city of Lund and Malmö. Just to mention a few, I deepen our collaboration as a department with Qlik via their fantastic Academic Program, Orango AB, DXC Technologies, Knowit, KNIME, Kapacity, and Peltarion.

Postdoc in Computer Science

Sep 2017Aug 2019 · 1 yr 11 mos · Malmo, Sweden

  • Focus in machine learning, artificial intelligence and IoT.
  • I was a Postdoc at the Department of Computer Science and Media Technology of Malmö University and was affiliated with the Internet of Things and People (IOTAP) Research Center, which is a research centre that studies how people can get the most out of the Internet of Things (IoT). Within IOTAP, a diverse group of people work together that includes computer scientists, informaticians, interaction designers, professionals from industry partners, and users.
  • I contributed in two key projects of IOTAP with acronyms DISS and ECOS+ by working in close collaboration with a number of industry partners, such as Axis Communications, Sigma Connectivity, Sigma Technology, and TerraNet, among others.
  • I focused on enabling rapid prototyping for the IOTAP lab, which was an IoT lab populated with various network interfaces and heterogeneous devices such as cameras, sensmitters, phones, Arduinos; and was open to researchers and students working in IOTAP-related projects and to existing and future IOTAP partners, both commercial and academic.
  • I participated in a large study by working closely with four senior researcher (including one professor) about “Open IoT platforms” that resulted in publishing a systematic mapping study in an established international scientific journal that currently is gaining momentum in the research community.
  • I taught courses in artificial intelligence, SQL databases, NoSQL databases, web programming, and business support systems (business informatics).
  • Main supervisor of the following 4 BSc theses
  • A machine learning approach to enhance the privacy of customers
  • Classifying human activities through machine learning
  • Investigating techniques for improving accuracy and limiting overfitting for YOLO and real-time object detection on iOS
  • Evaluation of test suite generation algorithm
  • And, I examined and reviewed 3 BSc and 3 MSc theses, respectively.

  • Focus in data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • RISE SICS is founded in 1985 under the name of Swedish Institute of Computer Science (SICS) and now is part of the ICT division of RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. RISE is Sweden's research institute with 2700 employees, 30% of whom are PhDs.
  • I took part from day 1 in initiating, writing and driving the SPIRE Horizon 2020 application and then granted project FUDIPO: Future Directions of Production Planning and Optimized Energy and Process Industries, with a budget of approximately EUR 6 million (Oct 2016 - Sep 2020). In FUDIPO, I led the largest workpackage (WP2: Tools and Requirements) with 120 man-months that united 11 partners from 6 different European countries. Moreover, at the same time I was the internal project manager for FUDIPO within RISE SICS Västerås, which held the second-largest share of the total FUDIPO budget with approximately EUR 700k.
  • I was a Case Manager for one of the industrial cases for the STREAM: Innovations for Sustainable, Smart, and Efficient Automation project, with a budget of approximately SEK 50 million (Jan 2011 - Dec 2016). I led and managed the process of co-production with five divisions of Atlas Copco (now Epiroc), which is one of the world’s most sustainable companies. The work involved requirements analysis, project planning, risk management, project execution, client communications, and ensuring that user-centered and business-driven approach is utilized throughout the project. Luleå university of technology

Ph.D. student

Dec 2009Sep 2014 · 4 yrs 9 mos · Lulea, Sweden

  • Focus in artificial intelligence and IoT.
  • The research questions driving my Ph.D. thesis were to investigate how the next generation of Internet of Things that are driven by human-machine interaction and are based on brain-like representations and computing principles should be designed and function. In order to address the research questions a multidisciplinary approach was needed, which led me to study various topics and courses, and among those, artificial intelligence, machine learning, human-machine interaction, information systems, and system integration (systems-of-systems, interoperability, service-oriented architecture) were essential.
