• Analytics is a pretty crowded space, so what makes StarTree different? Well, StarTree isn't trying to be a cloudier cloud data warehouse with even bigger data and faster and warehousier warehousing. The insight behind this business is that the definition of "decision maker"—you know, the people who consume analytics outputs, who once wore suits and sat in oak-paneled rooms—is expanding not just down the org chart, but outside of the organization to users themselves. This has created a need for infrastructure that inherits meaningful things from the received analytics tradition, but is itself a new technology category. And developers will have to understand that category, understand how to use Pinot itself, and have spaces in which they can get to know and support each other. That's the program we'll be building.
• StarTree is a User Facing analytics platform capable of processing billions of events per second in near real-time. In addition, StarTree can process historical data. The ability to process real-time and historical data significantly increases the operational awareness across your organization and allows anyone within your business to become a decision-maker. Companies such as Stripe, LinkedIn, Uber, Cisco, and many more are adopting StarTree to enable User Facing Analytics within their businesses.
