System Hardware Design
Responsible for yearly system level refresh for both high capacity spinning drive based storage systems and flash based bandwidth delivery systems working with FreeBSD software development team. Design goal metrics for cost, power, serving capacity and storage density. Hardware updates between refresh cycles are done as required to ensure top system efficiency.
Ongoing component level testing is completed for storage(HDD/SSD/PCIe-NVMe), network(1G/10G/40G), motherboard, CPU, PSU (AC & DC), RAM, Chassis (including fans/airflow) to facilitate rapid replacement of hardware in the event of a component sourcing issues.
Hardware Availability Engineering
Analyze Data from the platform that is collected and stored in AWS Hadoop/Hive storage for thousands of devices multiple times a day. Use this data to produce interesting and informative graphs and charts for ongoing discussions about hardware availability and failure rates.
Technical Contract Manufacturing Management
Manage multiple contract manufacturers building hundreds of machines per month. Work with each manufacturer to manage BOM cost by component, supply chain lead time, defect rate mitigation, custom os load, accessories, and packaging to meet needs of each deployment scenario.
Technical Professional Services Management
Design sites for loading content on 30+ machines at a time with professional services companies. Work with network engineering, services company staff, and operations teams to specify needed equipment, supervise site buildout, manage costs, troubleshoot and optimize performance.
Technical HW Lab management
Maintain three labs for content delivery development. Two of the labs are primarily for hardware testing and the third lab is of software development related to FreeBSD.
