Anirban Santara — Software Engineer
Anirban Santara is a Research Software Engineer at Google Research India. Prior to this, he was a Google PhD Fellow at IIT Kharagpur. He specialises in Robot Learning from Human Demonstration and AI Safety. He interned at Google Brain on data-efficient learning of high-dimensional long-horizon continuous control tasks that involve a hierarchy of goals at different time scales. He was the project-lead for MADRaS - the world’s first open-source multi-agent autonomous driving simulator (github.com/madras-simulator). Aside from his Robotics research, Anirban lead a team of researchers at IIT Kharagpur and ISRO that developed a novel Deep Neural Network architecture - BASS-Net (IEEE-TGRS 2017) - and information retrieval framework - PUNCH (arXiv:1904.04547 2019) - for land-cover classification in hyperspectral images. Anirban has also worked in Deep Learning for diagnosis of Diabetic Retinopathy and industrial process optimization in collaboration with Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals and Tata Steel, respectively. Anirban loves teaching and actively engages with the community through online courses (NPTEL), and on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/idliai/). He represented the AI community of India at the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students 2017, in Sochi, Russia. For more information about Anirban, please visit: anirbansantara.org.
